Your favourite UWH Pool

Just curious, where is everyone's favourite pool to play UWH? It may be because it has an awesome bottom, may be because its beautifully scenic, or it may be... just because.

The best pool i ever played Uwh in, was an open pool in Marseille , where EURO champs were. I prefer playing outdoors, and maybe thats the main reason , why i liked it so much .

of course, there were mountains and nice sunny hot weather,...

yeah that pool would have been my favourite but now they have put a non-slip surface on the previously glassy tiles. the pool is a slugfest battlezone now. it is for suck.

We shall mourne its loss.

Ahhh this one got me thinking. Been a few, so here's a few:

- Old Melbourne Aquatic Centre, Melbourne. Was torn down years ago, probably because it was putting too much chlorine into the Yarra River. Had tiles made of recycled razor blades, so your knees, hips and elbows bled after every game. Had my second nationals there, loved the venue with underwater viewing windows, tunnels everywhere, but it must have been the after party of the 93/94 nationals that sealed it in this list for me.

- Belmont Oasis Pool, WA. It's actually a crap pool (sorry WA folk), too chlorinated, weird shape, but it was site of the Australian team training camps for over a decade. I got pummelled by Arnie, Mike Gillespie, Bill Tanner and other legends here for many years, and brought down to earth many times. Trained until I near drowning most times. Won my first nationals at this pool. Wonderful memories and still hold this pool in awe.

- Education Department Pool, Hobart. Used to play here in the late 80's, early 90's. Had a concrete sloped bottom, open air and we played only in winter! Used to be freezing!!! Kind of surreal experience seeing the stars, or being rained or snowed on during a game. Was always a rush to get to the change rooms to cling onto the cylindrical heaters. Think it's closed down or downgraded now.

- Kilburne Aquatic Centre, NZ. My first Australian team experience. This pool was thought of as the best pool for uwh at the time. Was amazed how clear the water was when I first got in. Fast bottom, well set out - great pool!

- Hobart Aquatic Centre. Well it's my home pool... was involved in the planning of court layout, played and won my last worlds there ... fast and familiar.

Keith.

Hey Keith, I have the little v scars all over my knees and elbows from Old Melbourne pool, was pretty cool. The Nationals party back then was awesome! Do you rember the scaffolding dance floor over the grandstand?
I like the pool in Wellington, as I rember it had incredible visibility.
cheers
Belle

How it is underwater you can see by most photos i place here. Iff you look to the photos off the Benson move. Thats the pool underwater. With 2 small playing fields.

1 on 2 meter depth
1 on 3,8 meter depth

I was luckly enough to play in the French Champs in Evian last weekend. Definitely the best location/view/grounds of a pool I have ever played in. Bottom was also good...all round fantastic pool.
If only all pool bottoms were as fast as Warragul!

There really is something about outdoor pools isn't there. I loved playing in Palmerston pool just out of Darwin, it was a relative hike to get to, but super clear with a nicely tiled bottom and grassy surrounds. I remember playing one night by the light of a full moon when the pool staff accidentally turned off the lighting (they took 30mins to warm up again). It probably helps that I was a junior then and look back on those times with a fond memory.
