Using shoulder up the wall

Anyone care to comment whether they consider this to be an acceptable move by both the attacker and defender?

That would be advantage white. The defense is reaching for the puck, the offense completely disregards that and drives into him. I wouldn't be surprised if the ref didn't call it that way though.

he pulls the puck back and drives forward with his shoulder, surely that's barging by the black player?

You would think so, wouldn't you. But, nope, was a play on.

This is from Worlds in Calgary 2002, the refs there were strange. While you regularly received two minutes for touching the puck with your glove (no warnings were given, direct 2 mins), this was allowed.

Even when done by accident?(not on purpose)

Yes, this particular game is France v Netherlands.

And yes, when done by accident, I don't think there are many players playing who purposefully play the puck with their glove.

First game at the tournament our goalie got 6 minutes (3x 2 minutes) for small stick infringements. No warnings were given, and I think when we counted the minutes we got after that game we ended up around 26 minutes in the bin in total. The Netherlands paid the price for the physical hockey that is accepted in the competition in NL - what you get away with at home was not tolerated in Calgary.

On the plus side though, it was a fantastic tourmament to play in as a forward, since the opposition were scared to foul you.

That is all a little beside the point, with the video I just wanted to check whether others interpreted the move shown the same way I do - basically that the attacker is barging, or leading with his shoulder.

Ha Ha Jols i think we played you,i was playing with Spain..our first worlds!
And you annihilated us but i remember the game,it was fun...

I can remember USA annihilating us as well, also SA...actualy i can remember everyone annihilating us,except Moldova(haha)

Ok absolutely nothing got to do what we are talking about...

Yea typical French Bullies, barging for sure, the defence came in on a bad angle as well, and he was half the size of him (Have you guys ever heard of porrige in Holland!)so there was no way of stopping him, playing that Style of play you gotta really fin fast on the surface to get back far enough to get a face on tackle, coming in at that angle with his weight will nothing,as shown.. (But of course,at that pace of a game, finning fast on the surface is a lot easier said than done)

Actualy i do remember a lot of instances of sending outs,we were just no way use to international hockey play then.

I'm shocked! Oh wait, no I'm not. I'm outraged! Yeah, that works. Ah Calgary, fond memories of half a game schedules when you factor in all the stops.
