Ref's vid: Illegal stop or dangerous play

OK, here is a new vid from Sheffield...

Back flicks towards goal, and he tries to shoot into the (narrow) space between the player and the wall. Shot blocked by the shoulder of the defender.

Is this then dangerous play, or an illegal stop?

YouTube - Underwater hockey: blocking shot or dangerous play?

(sorry, it is a link, since this one just doesn't seem to want to embed properly...)

My opinion: easy one; penalty goal, kick the defender out for the game, credit the goal to the Dutch #2 (actually, why not give him a couple while we are at it), and case closed.

I think it's a dangerous play, attacker's fault..
Unless you are dutch #2, I don't really understand your point of view. I don't blame the attacker for trying to slip the puck in the small gap, but he wasn't succesfull, probably 2 minutes out, and advantage puck for the defense...

I may have been the Dutch #2..

But, you don't think that the defender pushes his shoulder towards the wall to block the gap?

after another replay, I still think the defender movement is just a reflex - something anybody will do if they see a puck coming... It may be a good theatre scene also, but it convinces me...
Don't you think attacker should have tried to pass the puck below the defenders body, with a lower flick ? defender is right handed (and raised), and to stop it, he should have moved the arm, and then you would have got your penalty ..

I think he shouldn't have shot at all, but gotten closer and pushed it under him.

Get your point on the reflex...

todd is an unknown quantity at this point
doesn't look like the defender arches his chest up or shifts his body to stop the puck, he sets himself in that position before the shots made - the movement as guilly said just looks like a reflex

looks like a hastey shot made by the attacker

I only watched this video once so I don't get the multi-view benefits. It sure looks like he turned away from the puck so as not to get hit in the face.

Went back and watched a few more times. Although he looks like he turned away and you could award a dangerous shot penalty, he also has set up with his hand up in position to stop the puck and it looks like it may have hit his hand. For that, I would want to penalize the defender. I can't tell if he's shaking it off as he rises or that is just a wave to assist his ascent.

It's a tough one because I think they both messed up. That shot never should have been taken at that spot and could be considered dangerous. And the defender played it to block it with his hand. After video review, probably kick them both out and give an equal puck. But we don't get the video reveiw.

atapene will become famous soon enough
...i don't think anyone is actually in the wrong here. running at game speed, if the ref has a better view than we do they might call it a dangerous shot, but i think the defender is moving into the wall as/after the shot is taken which makes it seem a bit closer to him than it is.

...actually i think the only thing that makes this clip look like there might be a foul in there is the flinch the defender makes once the puck is thrown?

Good point, just like a football player, milking the penalty...

... as I said, award the goal to the Dutch #2 and send him out.....
