| i've been telling people i play underwater hockey for more than 25 years most of them have come to terms with this now to try and explain a name change to everyone [and the reasons behind it, which i can't fully grasp] just seems like too much hard work to me. i still tell people i play underwater hockey [and in my mind i am quite certain that's what i do]. i agree with Jorge, let's just keep calling our comps underwater hockey wherever they are and whoever organises them. we aren't fooling cmas, no need to try and fool ourselves either. boxing has a zillion different organising bodies. they all call the sport by the same name. peoples front of judea? judean peoples front? [see life of brian, it's same deal] who wants to form the 'global underwater hockey federation' with me? then we can have an alternative organisation for folks who can't decide between cmas & waa. it's no crazier than the situation we have now. damn, have i introduced politics into the wrong thread again? not my intention - i only want sanity and simplicity.

| not quite; the change was to protect players in other CMAS sports such as skin spear fishing, uw rugby, finswimming, etc from being banned. We don't know yet if it will make a difference.

| Given that apnea and spearfishing didn't bother, I suspect it won't. |

| don't bother with what? apnea divers were banned in Bari for illegal participation;will my USA skin spear team be banned from WC in Venezuela this fall? will my fin swimmers be banned in 2009 CMAS Games? will my uw rugby team(s) be banned in 2009 CMAS Games?

Here's an interesting point from Bill Stronberg, head of AIDA (the competing apnea org). The bans can only apply if the athletes hold a current CMAS sports licence when they compete for the rival org. CMAS are planning a European Champs, so Bill suggested that any athletes wishing to compete in it should get a CMAS licence, compete, then annul the licence. Apparently this gets around the issue. Carol, can I suggest you get in contact with Bill, either through the AIDA website or through DeeperBlue forum, screenname 'Billextreme'. |

| ... i could give a stuff about someone elses spear fisherman and finswimmers. i do give a stuff about wrecking any progress anyone has made to get the name "underwaterhockey" around, and having to go back to square one.
