Rule Amendments for CMAS

Hi All

I am trying to keep/amend/improve on the rules of the game .
I have been hearing from lots of players that some rules need changing .
Examples: Do we need to have dark and light colors swim suits or just black and non black?.Do we need to have snorkel in water when subbing in water ? do we need mouth guards or just a directive and recommendations ? do we need different pucks at every tournament ,do we need glove colors etc....

Please give me your views short and simple so we can study them and come up with solutions /resolutions.

Antoine

Lots of views, no posts. Seems like no one wants to help.

i would like to see the rules applied more accurately and consistently, not a lot to change, but as they go...

- i'd like it to be legal to play the puck off the bottom (try it in a game before you think "everyone will do it all the time")

- spurt gloves with webbing etc should be legal on the free hand

Smile Rule Changes

The issues Tony brings up in his post have, for the most part, been discussed extensively and exhaustively in several recent and past meetings, and the current rules reflect the decisions made on those issues such as swim suit colors, glove colors, mouth guards and so forth.

I recently (actually second calling) requested rule proposals for the Durban meeting including general format for submission and a deadline of 15 January. I put my request on every relevant net I know and can access as well as rules directors for active playing countries and movers and shakers I know from those countries.

One rule change I would like to see is legal 'free subbing' between goals as was done at WC 2006 and Southern Hemispheres. It is an imperative change for any tournament with in-water subbing and works well, with very happy players, in other subbing systems. And I know Duck likes it.

We may, finally, be getting to the point where the major bugs have been worked out of our rules. Wouldn't that be nice, but please do send me your thoughts - before 15 January.

WAA Rule proposals

As the acting secretary for WAA, I requested rule proposals. Remember, 15 January is the WAA deadline. How about a separate thread for WAA rule proposals? It would be helpful if proposals came through the various federation hockey execs and/or rule directors, but I am willing to listen to proposals in general.

who will end up with a better set of rules?

to be truthful i thought the goal subbing thing was so obviously sensible it was going to be a gimme in the next set of rules, after being trialled successfully at sheffield.

trial successfully at worlds.... surely next worlds its in concrete. or is that not the case?

Why black and non black colour swimsuits?

Yes we need mouthguards. but more models intern and extern mouthguards.
And guidlines how to approve new mouthguards. Clear guidelines/rules.

Do we need glove colours.
The only thing there is, is that the glove is not the colour from the stick/pusher. A lot off pleyers have now bleu and green gloves.or grey gloves. Don't chance it again.
Maybe the rule that it not has the colour from the puck away. because everywere you play there is another colour and type puck.

Does this mean youd need to have several different gloves, one of each colour to allow for any puck colour?

I believe the current rules are that the puck must be a contrasting colour to the stick so the referees can distinguish between the playing area of the stick and your hand. I also believe that your glove can not be red/orange which is reserved for referees.

These rules make perfect sense to me, and are not hard to comply with. I dont think they need changing.

You are saying the rules make perfect sense and yet you are not paraphrasing them correctly. The puck (for international tournaments) is supposed to be pink or orange but other colors maybe allowed at the discretion of the Tournament Director. Gloves cannot be yellow or orange (reserved for refs) RED is fine as long as it contrasts the puck. The no red gloves is for some reason a very common misconception, but rules say nothing about red pucks or red gloves.

oops, i do have to agree that this part of the rules makes sense to me, i just felt like clarifying a point about the glove color. For example one of our players in Sheffield was not allowed to wear one of Marko's Red/Grey Slovenian gloves for a match, and another ref allowed him to use a marker to make the red parts black (it did wear off). Everyone for some reason thinks red is a problem.

Why are both CMAS and WAA both asking for rules submissions?
It's a little bit of 'me-too-ism'

Anyhow, who owns these rules? We have Tony & Carol both in this thread.
Who owns the resulting rules?
