| The rule comes into play if a player (that doesn't have possession of the puck) obstructs another player from going for the puck. Where it gets a bit tricky is on Free pucks where a Forward might be seen as obstructing if they drop down in front of the opposition and block them from getting to the puck. The key is to get into position first - then you can't be seen as obstructing.

| Straight from the rule book: 9.5.2.7.1 Obstruction on an advantage puck: On an advantage puck, before the puck has been played, a player is deemed to be obstructing if he/she endeavours to block another players direct line to the puck. Action: Advantage puck if done by defending team Equal puck if done by attacking team

| so if attacking team on free puck drops a wall of 3 fronts, it always comes to obstruction ? They are blocking direct line ? wht if they all sub simultaneously? ![]()

You still don't know who am I, gee, that's fine as long as Natasha knows me well and makes meals for me when you're away (in another room making those fine gloves). |

| As lena said if you get in position first its not obstruction, as long as you don't then move to block the path of the defensive players. So lets say a team... Canada for example drops a wall of three guys on an advantage puck right at the referee's 3m line. I want to go attack the puck straight away. As long as those guys get into their postition before I start my move to the puck adn then don't move to continue to block my path, its fine, but say I start to go over one of them and that person comes up off the bottom pushing me up, or making me travel out of the line I had chosen... obstruction. They can come donw to the bottom, but just need to make sure their movements after the play starts, don't obstruct a defensive player's line to the puck.

| Kinda scary but I think I understand what you're saying here... How I dont' know... but it is still obstruction even if you have the intention of moving to a postion to recieve a puck. Even if its accidental its still obstruction. It happens all the time a player is swimming the puck and a teammate is swimming close to parallel, just a little infront for a forward pass. A defender is trying to attack the puck from an angle where the player hoping to recieve the pass is blocking them out, and as they swim that player is moving to block them out. Not on purpose, but he is still obstructing. |
