| Wearing a guard - be it internal or external - might not help.. Team mate of mine got a tooth knocked out in May this year at Njord's tournament in Veldhoven (NL). He was wearing his new internal guard for the first time. This one was made for him earlier this year by SPTL (http://www.sptl.nl/). He claims not to trust his new guard anymore (I would not either if I were him ) so he is playing with his old one now. That one is a lot bulkier so maybe that influenced the `end-result'. My guard (and my team mate's older one) comes from the dentist, good job there but I am thinking of buying an external guard as well. Better safe then sorry (I do get a puck in the head on occasion but that might just be me mindlessly rushing the puck :P) . Also, it kinda looks daunting for an opponent ![]() |

The streamline? The one the Tilburg team has now for 5 years were streamlined. But now in the dutch next season competition we must chance those. We no longer may use them. because the are never aproved by rules. so we must put those "american"external mouthguard on the snorkels. Or take internal. But most off our players really dont trust and like the internal ones. Quote:
Sepia maybe? I really want that stick........

| I've never understood this argument against the external mouth guards. You have a mask, Cap with earprotectors, snorkel, and unless you are sprinting mid water with both hands on your stick and even then you have the glove and some of the homemade gloves out there might be the bulkiest piece of gear, you are not in a streamlined position with one arm down or both arms in odd positions, how does that little piece of plastic truly affect your stream line?????

| every little helps or should i say unhelps.. not saying im a streamline fanatic but if you have a bulky glove, hat that is loose, bulky fin socks, saggy trunks im sure this all causes drag so an external mouthguard just adds to the resistance. why should swimmers glide through the water as opposed to trashing through it. cyclists go throught the same. its all angled around stream line,no matter how minute it is. yes, i do like the strikes a lot and i refer to my dislikes of the outer protector for this reason also the more bulky things i have on me the bulky i feel thus mentally i dont feel fast(just a psychological reason) all this results in getting to the puck that milisecond faster. an gum sheild(inner gaurd) looks more intimidating to the opponent also. yes true its not going to make the bionic man but if i can avoid drag i will

| Alright, you have your preferance. I'm just a little sensitive to that as an argument. I've been hit/kicked in the mouth a few times in the past several years (some my fault some not) and I know at least one instance I would have lost teeth if not for the external guard, so i believe in them. And from the start I've heard this argument about them being bulky and causing turbulance/drag. I just think, and always have, that it is an insignificant increase when added to the turbulance from the mask and snorkel. That and the internal guard, when we are talking about impact from a puck, might not keep you from getting your teeth knocked out... thay may be easy to find held right there in the plastic tray, but they won't be attached any longer. BTW I too like strikes and though I don't win as many as I used to I can point to several different things I need to change in order to win them all before I blame the mouth guard.

| believe it or not but i have never discussed this or dissagreed about this with anyone before, its all new to me as i never have used any mouth protection. but the war stories are coming out and i really do like my teeth. yes streamline over no front teeth.. hmmm ,errrr ummmm can i get back to you on that one !

| hey no worries, i was just waiting for this one point to come up, as it always does from someone, and i guess since it is something I formed an opinion about a LOOONG time ago relative to the whole mouth guard discussion I kinda get passionate about defending my point of view.

I have a similar guard as the new one. For me, only the last two molars in the back (incl. wisdom tooth) are not covered by the guard... Seems pretty solid to me... Currently, I'm also wearing both the internal and the external guard as I've seen several pucks rather up-close[4] [1] So you can have ALL your teeth kicked out at once ![]() [2] Hi Wim! [3] [3] Not a real footnote [4] Without permanent damage
