| hey soph don't know about anyone else but i think girls seem to back tackle alot more than guys, i know that's one thing that drives quite a few people mad, having the puck nicked from your stick and seeing the swimming costume speed away from you!!

| I never play in girls vs girls games...except at a proper comp. There's only 3 or 4 women who constantly come along to hockey here. So I'm used to playing against men who enjoy smacking me around cos I'm a girl...but hey, I like the games so meh. But it means the games at Nationals are a lot different...I kinda prefer playing mixed. |

I have noticed that girls learn to play smart way earlier than guys do… by that I mean they play as a team, they look for the back pass, they back-pick, and they spend more time working on the fundamentals of good play within the first few months where guys can take over a year to master these basics. This may just be a phenomenon of the local girls in DC, but there is definitely a pattern here.

| Sadly it is still guys doing most of the posting here. While I connect with my inner feminine side, as opposed to my outer feminine side, I thing uwhguy is right about the women picking up teamwork quicker, but I think they keep that advantage throughout their career. That mostly comes from big dumb guys that figure they can just plow through the dainty little girls (and anything or anyone else that gets in their way) so the gals adapt and look for help rather than get hammered, whereas the big dumb guys keep trying to go through places they shouldn't. I've played with women that could hold their own in any game where brut force isn't the dominant game plan and some that would do alright in those games as well. To say that men are bigger and faster or can throw farther means nothing when talking about the skills and who does what better. Execution is what counts and with this being a team game, except for Benson on the strike, that matters more than bigger and faster. Just look at a couple of the most dominant women backs over the last 15 years, Lena from Australia and Mel from Canada, they aren't anywhere near as big as they play. But they execute near flawlessly. Daffy Duck

| they're all too scared too. haha. but seriously...womens hockey is slower than mens because there's not that many speedy players (here in aus anyway). There's a couple but it's usually wasted because the rest of their team can't keep up with them. It's kinda pointless having one person who's fast. And it's not that they are all slowwwwww slow but I don't think enough emphasis is put on the benefits of strength training and putting in the work so you can use the leaders, quattros, etc. etc. properly. And the womens division is weaker because - one again - strength training isn't as high of a priority. I play against men all the time here so I'm used to being smacked around so when I go into a womens game I look like I'm a brute because I go into tackles harder than some other women do. And that's all I have to say. Last edited by zoee : 13-09-08 at 11:13 PM. |

| Zoe, I think you live in a sheltered workshop up there in Queensland! Just ask any of the girls that were in the Aus team that went to Durban about how much strength and speed training they did and you might be surprised! I am shocked at your statement Zoe.
