We have also done the same test with the Aus women's team. Most of the time I think the puck managed to beat the player but not all the time.

We also do the test with bad shooters and good swimmers : the puck looses !
Even if the test result is diffucult to appreciate, it's a nice and fun exercice to perform...

Iff you lett the fastest swimmer you have swim against the puck.
Then its fair to take the best players whit much controll and good shot/passes.

Now that is a very good point.

atapene will become famous soon enough
if the players have good passes and control i really think the speed of the swimmer is irrelevant, they should be that much faster passing. give the swimmer a monofin and i might worry a little.

i could see a genuinely fast player beating the puck

i'm talking a sub-20 for a 50m apnoea, that's a fast player

...or an incredibly slow finswimmer. Even a quick player might struggle, but with a mono (or maybe even some really ace glass fibre fins), they could probably do it. For the record, the 50m apnea record with a mono is about 14s, while the 50m freestyle swimming record is 21s.

...mneah, sure, thats why i said i'd worry with a monofinner, theyre so much faster than uwh players itd make it really tough.

but really it'd take a stuff up in handling or a bum pass to let the swimmer win, surely.

...i guess it'd take 4-5 players spread down the pool to do it, probably 5. so who can find 5 players who can control the puck fast and have nice consistent passes? probably not as easy as it sounds actually.

Yeah, but in the original mail from Dolan, doesn't he say that even with the odd fluffed pass the puck still won?

Next weekend there will probably be enough NZ reps to make a team of passers that you would have faith in Atapene... although it just occured to me that we will have the floating barrier in the middle, so we will need at least one person who can pass over a 1m high barrier.

Or make the distance shorter.
