Strategies on the Strike

Because we have started a poll on the importance of the strike, perhaps its a good time to start a thread to share strategies on the strike.

One which I have witnessed (playing on the opposing team) was at the 04 Worlds where the Dutch women, who had a couple of very fast players, sent the centre out fast off the wall winning the puck, then swimming it sharp and wide where she met her winger (who was equally as speedy) who then swam in an arc towards the goal... and, to our dismay, scored.

Why it worked? Looking back at the video of the game we couldn't believe we didn't notice their winger sneakily edging along the wall when awaiting the strike call. But that's why I think it worked, because we weren't expecting it. They tried it once again but we were onto it, so I suppose its a once only (unless the opposition is a bit slow, mentally).

Was that clip at normal speed or slowed down?

"just keep swimming" is always the first step in success, but if you are swimming in a direction the rest of your team isn't prepard for you to go you may have some issues in a bit. Ie your teams plan to go right then up pool, but in your example here things break down and the push is up the middle. If you "just keep swimming" rather than putting in the effort to at least get the puck to where your team is expecting the puck to go then you are doing more harm that good... even if you can push the puck up 1/3 pool in their direction it can turn into a 5 on 2 against you very quickly. Just a little input from someone whose take a few strikes.

tactical brilliance

But when you get right down to it, the simplest strikes tend to be the most effective.

Why so much turns? Its simpler just to swim straight forwards like the movie shows.
Iff you count you see that i swimm past 5 opponent players...
