How important is the Strike?

This is kinda my point. If a team is able to defend well and be effective gaining possession after they let the attacking team get the puck first, absorb there inital rush and force them to a wall where they can start a counter attack, ideally without giving up much pool, why sprint out there with 4 or 5 players? It doesn't have to be as I described the Aussie's doing in '98, the play itself can be just as varied as plays trying to get the puck first, and not to mean just sitting back and letting them come at you, but maybe actively attacking the puck forcing to the wall. Again what seems to determine success or failure is making mistakes or not. So why make a huge effort and sprint out to the puck if having a bit more patience and counter attacking after the opponents make a big effort will work?

...then when its time to catch them off guard or tired, and score, maybe a big push will even be more effective?? as you said the unexpected!

Even considering this everyone seems to think its worth the effort, go apesh!t every time... I used to think so, but now I'm not so sure.
I supose i'm older, fatter, slower but not any wiser... *sigh*

tuck, it's basically because of something very simple.

winning teams go out and take the game, take the initiative, whatever you want to call it. why let the other team dictate terms to you...in fact why let them into the game in the slightest sense if you can avoid it. why let them touch the puck.

a plan can be a reactive plan but you probably will find that just as in life, love and business, proactive plans work far better.

not that i know anything about life, love or business. just something i heard.

ok i'll accept that, as it is something I believe and preach for everyother aspect of the game it doesn't make sense I would want to do something different on the strike.
