no.

the better you use free space, the better you use free space. skills are important here but probably more so is timing.

speed is pointless if you can't use the space to create overlaps, beat players with passes etc.
If you invade free space carrying speed, you can create more options for overlaps, passes,...

but support from other players is essential.

Actually, if you invade free space with speed, you may find you get forced in a direction you really didn't want to go. Use speed when you need speed not just because you have some open space. While speed is best when the path to the goal becomes a race, a carefully thought out approach can force a well-positioned defender into doing something they would rather not do.

yes , it depends how dynamic your opposition is and where are the players positioned. you can always use your fins to brake and force him into a move ?

2-2 or 1-2-1

In a 4 on 4 game, what are the advantages / disadvantages of playing 1-2-1 versus 2 forwards and 2 backs?

A 1-2-1 Vs 2-2 just comes down to the people on the team. If you have a real strong forward type and a supper strong stopper, then a 1-2-1 may seem obvious, knowing that that 1 in front will need to work his super hard.

A 2-2 would be a little more standard all around type formation. Keys would be having pairs that know each other well, so the backs can play off each other and the forwards can just go nuts the whole time.
