Yes.

It gets more attention now, mainly because of the way the Dutch played it in Hobart - from Calgary you got minutes in the bin straight away. At that time no one had tried the tactic and the refs did not penalise it consistently.

Nat is an unknown quantity at this point
Jols Said "Nice of Nat to call me huge though. First time that has happened."

You have a big presence Jols.

When I first read/heard the plan for the US strategy going into Durban one of the many critisisms I had of the plan was that it sounded very much like the Dutch game in 2000 and seeing it first hand it was not a good idea. Obviovously my feelings were not appreciated and we (as a team) needed to see for ourselves how it wouldn't work. I suppose there is hope as it seems we are just 6 short years away from a medal if we continue on the path of chasing the Dutch

Funny every time I try and describe the French game from '98 all I ever hear is "well that's clearly obstruction." all I can say is "yep, but for whatever reason they got away with it." Another point I had about our game plan in Durban is that the only way it could work was more along the lines of the French in '98 but of course that game can't be played anymore.

As far as 4-a side, I think it really depends on the personal. My home club regularly has only 4 on 4 for our week night pick-up games and it all depends on who is there how we play. 2-2 or 1-2-1 or 3-1. I've never tried a 1-3 but that has as much to do with personal, we just have more forwards, or those who should play forward.

Hey Tuck,

The reason it can't be played anymore (which is a good thing) is that the refs have given it a lot more attention since Calgary. I don't know if you are aware of this, but in Calgary before the tournament I was told the refs were shown a video of NL in Hobart and told to penalise this sort of thing harshly. It did result in some ridiculous reffing to be honest, where in the first minute of the first game our player gets a 2 minute time penalty for the puck rolling over his glove while attempting a sidestep. That said, Calgary was great to play as a forward since no-one dared to body check you.

4x4
You may want to try 1-3 with some forwards on the wings of the 3. Then you will have the attacking support you need when the 1 has the puck on a run and the forwards might learn something about defending that they can use also. Especially when the game goes on a bit, the backs tend to give defending more prioirty and forget to chase on attacks to support. They are always lazy, those backs... never trust a back to do a frowards job.
