Spectra chefs gloves, eh? Those could be useful for a variety of reasons. For those that don't know, spectra is a brand name for UHMW (ultra high molecular weight) polypropylene, same thing as dyneema. Extremely resistent and strong, used for fishing lines, bulletproof vests and lightweight, high tensile strength lines. Same tensile strength as multistrand steel cable at the same diameter, but with significantly lower weight. Should be interesting to see how it turns out for you.

Dyneema/spectra does fray though, so it won't last forever. Should survive better than cotton though and definitely doesn't rot or get slippery like normal nylons.

what about posting some photos someone doing a glove with a few pointers

Ok, I think it turned out quite well! The chef's glove worked great. It was easy to rub a coat of silicone into it, and it has excellent flexibility even with the protection on.



I was planning on putting some protection on the back of the hand, and maybe a bit up the side of the wrist, but ran out of time and silicone. Still, I might add that later, after I've tested it out in the water.

you might want some protection on the sweet spot just between your thumb and index knuckles - take a hit there and you won't be able to hold your stick

someone could make a ilustrated manual about doing a glove . It would be many sourcefull for us here back in Portugal

I'm currently making a kevlar/latex glove which will be the dogs goolies. I've used cotton/nylon material gloves too often which perish or split easily. Siicone does not cut the mustard as it's too soft when complete. Applied well, a latex glove is comforatable, durable, pliable and yet offers the most protection.

For better results, drop the stick and hold the hand at semi-closed fist.

A follow-up on the Spectra (chef's cut-resistant material) gloves I made last November...



Spectra may be knife-resistant, but apparently it isn't all that pool-tile-resistant, as it's worn through on the knuckles of the first two fingers. Apparently silicone sticks to silicone, so it should be possible to repair. Although I've already discovered that duct tape doesn't stick to silicone at all. And I thought it stuck to everything!

At some point, I will write up a similar guide for stick-making, but be warned... I may rival Liam and Benson when it comes to being anal about stick design

Sounds very interesting. I will look forwards to see your designs. Maybe some new ideas are found in them.
