i like the fact that you've made an effort to texture the outside circumference of the puck, even if it's only with a rough file.

i've mentioned it before but it's been pretty frustrating lately playing with the aussie pucks for the shc and having new or near-new pucks being used in the tournament... the aussie pucks are made with no texture at all, in fact a slick gloss finish all over and when they are new it's very hard to get much spin on the puck due to that gloss finish... which ruins passing completely and makes consistency a lottery. the aussie pucks always need "breaking in" or even manual adjustment with sandpaper or a concrete wall to be able to play properly. to be honest it's a big design flaw and i'm surprised more isn't made of it.

co-incidentally, passing of the pucks was a nightmare for all teams involved in SHC, and the dodgy pool bottom was blamed by most people... but i actually think it was only a small amount of pool bottom contributing to it (due to no grout between the tiles and cracked tiling), i think the puck had much more to do with the problems everyone had.

playing with a nice new shiny polished puck like that is essentially the same as having rugby, afl, league or gridiron balls being manufactured and produced with coatings of varnish and vasoline... just to make sure passing and handling the ball is as difficult as possible. doesn't make much sense.

The rough surface around the circumference is part of my manufacturing process and all of my puck models have this feature. It really helps with the stick to puck contact efficiency and there is no "break in" period for the puck.

Aussie Pucks

Hi Steve, Liam and all,
We are currently working on a new design that should hopefully fix the problems Liam has mentioned. We obviously want to produce something different to Steve, Orca, NZ and Simms but that actually improves the game. Unfortunately money is the issue and we can only progress as fast as we have the funds to buy materials and get dies made. We had hoped to have it done by now but costs keep going up as our dollar flounders next to the USD (can't work out why though). We will let you all know when they are ready!
Cheers Matt

Video of UNI2 in action....

I just posted a video of the Uni2 in action at the University of Illinois tournament this past weekend. Bottom type: 1" tiles, semi rough, nice slope, trench warfare.

Video can be found here: canamsticks.com - Home

Nice video.

But how is the puck doing/results when you look playing to another puck in the same pool.

I've been playing with the UNI2 for just over a month now, and have used it in two tournaments (San Diego & Los Angeles). The puck slides well on 1-inch tile and on rough bottoms. It is very durable and has held up well so far. The shot is nice and stable, and the sides have plenty of grip. I can't comment on how the puck does on big glassy tiles, but for the pools I play at, this puck is certainly among the best.

All and all, a solid puck and a reasonable price. Thanks Steve!
