I was told indeed when I bought my second pair that the construction of the blades has been modified to make them stronger.

Still, Romain, reading that in 6 months time there were two new versions doens't really make me too happy. Paying 170 Euro for a pair to basically do testing for them so they can be improved kind of sucks.

And, what Duck wrote about kicking off the wall and the stress on the fins is exactly what I had concluded. Remains to be seen whether the new ones will also fail there, but they will be expeiencing a lot less kick-offs since I have now regressed into a fat and lazy phase.

Since you won't mention names, I shall guess... Uh, Angela Whiteman? So does this Angela not bend her blade when she pushes off. Even with the fin aimed down her heel will lift before her toes creating bend at that spot. Just because she contorts more than a Cirque du Soleil acrobat for her start doesn't mean she doesn't bend her blades. And I would guess that pushing off that way with the one foot only changes the angle of the bend in reverse of what would be normal. But still stressful.

atapene will become famous soon enough
well not really duck, you have to see it really.

but she only really kicks off with one fin, half of that one is sticking out of the water, and theres comparatively not much stress at all on the fin down the bottom.

i've no idea how well it works... but things can be done. for instance, why not sit backwards and push off like a backstroker with your fins in the air, take the pressure off them that way?

I know of one person that used to do this and I've tried it myself. It depends on the pool in question as to how well it works. It's not ideal, at least for me, but it does work.

Due to the propensity of Mares Quattros/L's to kinda suck to the wall if you push off with your toes, when I wear those sorts of fins I try to push off with the heel than the toe. When its done right i can feel a difference. Also depending on the pool pushing off still with the bottom of the foot, but with the fin pointed upward. Actually in many pools I have seen people all over the world doing this when the tiles are really slick on the sides, holding the wall and fin blade with the same hand and pushing off only with that foot. Since the blade is above the water it doesn't strike the side.
I'm also thinking I've seen people push off with the top of their foot as Liam describes... can't seem to remembner who or where... I thought it was in Sheffield.

Carbon or Fibre

Hello all,

on the BUWH site (where you can order these beautyfull fins) I saw there are two options for the blades: carbon or fibre.
In the little information scheme under it they try to explane what the difference is, but I don't really understand any of it. Can someone please explane to me what the difference is and what would be a wise choice?
I'm now playing with Leaderfins and I like them very much, but I can't hold them longer then one game (30 minutes) because then there's no blood left in my feet.
I'm still trying to beat Jols in speed, so I'll need every technologic advantage I can get ;-)

Hope to hear from one of you (or all),

Regards,

Simon

I have to ask, why the leaderfins hurt your feet so much, which ones do you have? In years of freediving, the only footpocket that I liked better was the C4, the Omer fits wonderfully.

First, the leaderfins most people are talking about here have the finswimming (open heel) footpockets, not Omers. Second, Omer footpockets are generally worn with booties when freediving or spearfishing, but barefoot when playing hockey.

Trust me; finswimming footpockets are NOT built for comfort!

ok, that explains a lot to me. I have been finswimming and freediving since I was like 12. I know those open heel things are terrible, I can't even understand why they continue to make them that way, such minor changes would improve them by so much. I wasn't sure which fin you were using.
I have the Leader UWG Carbon with the Omer pocket and I love them, I have always thought the Omer was one of the best freediving pockets out there. Good fit is both tough and critical with them though, as the Omer pocket doesn't give at all, so you can't size them down, they either fit or don't. I have never really worn socks with Omer pockets so wearing them barefoot is normal for me at least, certainly better than the Beuchat pocket that is simply too flexible for solid power transfer through the transition required for hockey
