What is the design of your dream pool?

So in my perfect pool, there are very few if any butted edges, it is fast.. could be tile or it might be 4x8 foot sheets of pvc, it has at least one aquarium wall with bleachers, all markings are in place, the depth can easily be adjusted for differing ages/skill levels, the goals are recessed where the trough is supposed to be so that if a puck hits in it drops so that it cannot be lifted out, and of course, the gem of gems... it then automatically gets reset in the middle of the pool from underneath.

Cameras are throughout the pool to follow the action and record everything digitally, there are large screens all over, a clubhouse with a kitchen and/or cook as needed, plenty of couches, nice showers and plenty of working lockers, a suit spinner for drying your suit (I hate cold wet suits), a few hot tubs set at different temps, and of course, a cool bunkhouse that overlooks the pool for times when you want to invite your 30 closest hockey friends over for the weekend.

So what's yours?

Our Belgian national team has a few architects who played around with the idea of the ideal pool.
The concept is a fully transparent, transportable pool with 800 seats around it, audio-visual installations, drinking stands, in a large bubble.
The floor is made out of a special type of plastic, optimal for playing hockey. The field is lid from below, so spectators can see the entire field when it's dark in the dome. When a fault is commited and the ref pushes the button, the color of the field turns red and a signal is given.
I don't have visuals on this computer, but Romain can set it up. Certain of you might have seen the plans in Sheffield.

Worst part is, that this is completely feasable. The investment would be 2 million euros. The filtration system would be done by the Belgian company providing the filtration of Cirque du Soleils underwater Vegas show. This would make the water 100% filtered with great view at every time.
2 million is not that much money for a new pool, but most cities here are currently not really keen on investing into it, yet.

I'll try to post some visuals here asap.

Aquadome

We were supposed to present this project in front of the European Parliament after Sheffield.

Troubles caused by CAS action have sadly wasted this incredible opportunity. It is in the perspective of this project that we have been leaded to question the CAS action and after that the financial functionning of former CMAS UWH Com.

Along with our architects, we are still working on the project. We hope to be able to communicate positive news for mid-March 2008.

Most of intervenants on this forum have already see a general presentation of the project. For several legal reasons, I rather prefer to not publish our plans on this forum.

Duck you may ask Sean to describe it to you.

I remember looking over some shoulders while this was described in sheffield a couple times. From what I remember it was met with positive feedback on all fronts and some pretty good answers for most of the skepticism. Keep us informed of hte progress. Look forward to updates in March.

Wow, great idea guys!
I have an idea for UWH playing ground, that could be mounted on the spot, and put into sea or lake. I played arround with different concepts and came to few conclusions in order to make it successfull.

1. Playing ground should be able to last a significant number of years (15+), to excuse its cost.
2. P.g. should be made of materials that can susstain all of the sea water influences.
3. P.g. should be light enough, and designed in such a way, that it can be transported with single truck, and mounted together on the beach in few hours by team of 20 players.

Playing ground can be made in 3 different ways, regarding the buoyancy. Positive, negative or neutral. Becouse of the advantages for easy moving it on the water, and easy instalation, it would be best to have it just slightly positive in the sea. Concrete anchors (moorings) on the sides and under the playing area, would secure it in place. The concrete anchors would be the only part, that would stay underwater for good. Aditional heavy-duty buoys mounted on the sides would make it more stable. Sinking of the playing area would be done from the boat one side at the time, using chain pulley between playing area, anchor and the boat. This would also be used to change the depth of the playing area.
It sounds like I'm dreaming, but in fact its not that hard to make it so. I have lots of experiance in salvage, and I think this way is do-able, but with a challange.

I'm stuck at other problems such as materials and how to make it rigit enough. This would require experimenting. The best way to do it, would be to try varius ideas on a smaller scale model, let say 30 m2. thats little over 5m x 5m, and a scale of 1:10 of the usable field. It would provide proving ground for most of the problems ahead. I was stuck some time, as to what prime material should be used in construction of the playing area, and it seems like I just may have found it.

Now, the part where reallity strikes. Money. Even for the experimenting on the scale model, it would take some serius money to make it work. I would put out the money myself, if it was for full scale workable playing ground, and some "promises" of the future money return from its use. Also, for such a project I would need help... and lots of it. These are the reasons, why I havent moved this project from "idea" stage until now.

Anyone out there?

It would be great, to have tournaments and training camps on the sunny beaches, now wouldn't it, eh?
