These look like Leaderfins - are they similar? Are they as heavy?

yeah they are similar to leaders but as discussed before they have vanes on the bottom as well as the top of the fin, more so than the leaders, and no they are nowhere NEAR as heavy. cos leaders are encased in rubber, the rubber adds a lot of weight... these are just the fibre with a rubber strip, they are actually the lightest fins i've seen in ages, far lighter than alas too i thought. was one of the things i liked about them.

Sounds like they are illegal for Hockey then. The leader fins were okay'ed because they were fully encased so that if the fin broke there was still some protection from the splintering of the fiberglass.

duck duck duck... there are 3-4 different types of fibreglass fins being used in all sorts of comps in europe particularly by the french and belgians which have only rubber strips around the edges to protect against cuts.

they were also being used in sheffield. get with the times my friend! i think you guys need to have some enterprising frenchman send some samples your way... theres a big market in the states for fins too, i'm surprised it hasn't happened so far.

they may well be illegal according to the letter of the law... they may not be. but the point is, everyone is using them already, and with no problems as yet. majority rules and i'd bet if they are illegal, it wont be for long.

Ooooo. Peer pressure. All the kids are doing it. Just because they are doing it and it didn't get called doesn't make it right or safe. The fiberglass issue is more about safety than anything else. But if being so cavalier about it is the way things are to be then we can all take off our mouthguards, earguards, and gloves and play that way.

I would hope that the refs would enforce the rules about equipment a little more closely when it has to do with safety rather than blowing it off because one team has 5 players using something and they feel intimidated to say no to them. If it's a safety concern then it shouldn't be allowed no matter how many are doing it.
