| I thought I saw John Bridley with a pair of what I'm 90% sure were nemo fins about a year ago. He plays up around brisbane these days right?
The nemos looked okay to me. I'd say that any safety issues with composite fins have to do with the edges of the fins and the possibility of getting little bits of fibre stuck in other players, rather than the smooth surface of the composite.
I had heard of some rule disallowing composite fins, but I'm sure this was because most(all?) composite fins which predate these nice uwrugby fins were unlined spearing fins. The only safety issue on the nemos, I'd have thought, would arise if a blade were to break, exposing the raw composite edge, or if the rubber edge came off somehow. I think the leaders address this by being coated in rubber so if a blade broke, hopefully it'll still be inside the rubber, but whether or not blades are likely to break... who knows. |
