I think some of you know where I'm going with this idea... and its worth a try, at least that, if nothing else.

Waterway model , I dont know what that is... I have been gone from finswimming area, more than uwh in past years.... I know only of many Russian monofin models, and there are more than few, all are champion fins, none have names I know of, all are growing with abbilities every year.

The latest Russian short distance monofin, covered with minimum protection rubber on swimming part (the forward-looking sides of fin) and sides, should be enough to make the point - or to disproof the point, wheather its useful or not. We can always do better after that....

Like water stabilizers made of rubber on sides and the middle, cut-off parts of vitroplast in the middle, foot pockets connected only on sides (dont forget that nasty tight foot pockets on monofins, that make your feet feel like having inquisition torture techniques applied to you) .... simple methodes, to change the excellant speeding fin, and retain some degree of manuverabillity. NONE of those would be needed if the advantages of speeding monofin would (could) be used properly in first place.

Dont forget the changing tactics involved, opportunities to be used... I cant imagine backs having to deal with superb monofin opposition front player and stoping them like they are used to.. The moment that such front player gets a clear puck, its a 100% goal. No matter where on the field.

But Duck you catched my drift, and yes... I never tried it, as its too risky to play uwh with normal monofin. But I did more than try monofins. I'm just not shure weather it will be enough to make mine desired difference... Having noone tried it in the world, is good enough for me to try it! Probably I'm wrong, but then again....

The never tried it was actually intended for Todd. And it was to have a team set up where one guy just does breakaways. But you can set up the same sort of thing with a good pair of Twarons. Although you can still turn slow or in big circles, it is much more difficult and forces your style of play to be more of a forward only style. It wouldn't be quite as limiting as a monfin, but it gets close.

I still think Alas are the better hockey fins as they give you good power, speed and manuevering. And in all the times I have been hit with them, the only time it hurts is when there is a heel on the other side of the rubber that makes contact with you. The plastic fins feel like the nun whacked you with a ruler, using the narrow edge. I'll continue to voice my opposition to using non-rubber foot weapons but I wouldn't stop the game for it. I think in time people will get rid of them. All it will take is a couple of key slices that take players out of games. Or maybe a ref getting whacked. Any takers? Simon?

You're thinking of Andronov-style fins, I own a Leaderfins Hyper Professional which is built in that style. The fin I was talking about was this one, mainly because they're cheap and durable. Very good to experiment with. The russian fins like Kershov, HyperFin and Andronov are good, but bloody expensive and take forever to get to you. Another option is the very good Chinese-made Chen Bin fins. They'd also be safer in a game, but really, that's a very relative statement.

Is there anyone on the board who was around in '88 at worlds in the NED? I thought I recall someone telling me AUS had a guy wearing a monofin for taking the strike and maybe using for break aways as well. Can anyone confrim or deny? Am I crazy or did this happen?

Could have been a Joe Grandov story, Tuck.

Naw it was Jorge Merodio. It was back when I was still wearing duck feet to play in, might have been the high energy disco we had at Ohlone right before the guys traveled to '96 worlds. Did you play with us on the challenge team? I had no idea the accomplishment it was at that time to be getting to the puck first, KB was wearing Twarons taking th strikes against me. Afterward Jorge was telling me about taking the strikes during the '88 worlds wearing duck feet and beating someone wearing a monofin... but hard to remember, it may have been just that the person was wearing a finswimming type snorkel damn second hand memory loss.

I ment, that you understood me, about the idea of only one player wearing monofin and only looking for breakaways in the game, while others keep the game up with 5 players...

I'm working 24/7 on production of ala's, or to be precise... advanced ala's. I'm getting close, but it gets more and more expensive every day. Will let you know when I have my first pair of superala's

Wow.... thanks freedivenz. You really know your stuff. In my city, there is a dealer of russian monofins, so they are actually easiest to get for me. When I'll do this experimenting, I'll use one of the old fins. As you said, the new ones are almost worth their mass in gold...
