I'm borrowing a pair of these at the moment. Very good, very fast, covered in vulcanised rubber entirely and so they're at least as safe as anything else in use, moreso than many. The problem is the footpocket. For some people they're alright, but leaderfins needs an anatomy lesson. The big toe is not in the middle of the foot! I need to find out if these ones are vulcanised. If they are, I'll take 'em.

Tuck, I train three times a week with the leaderfins rep in NZ, he's the one that lent me the games 2006 fins to try out. I also have a hyper professional mono on the way soon. They will put standard footpockets on any of their fins that don't have finswimming footpockets, but those that do need to be redesigned to use them. Picasso, Beauchat, Spetton and Apnea are the other main removable-type footpockets for freediving fins. Some people have used the Cressi and Imersion footpockets by cutting them out from the blades and gluing new ones in, but that's a bit obsessive really. Kerian has asked about vulcanised fins with standard footpockets, but hasn't heard back. I was just hoping someone here had tried them.

I just want someone to copy ALA fins, and start producing them. I bet that all of the design rights are long gone by now. Put a fiberglass plate in them for all I care, but I want to buy something very close to ALA. Maybe there is a way to print national flags on them, or club logo's or names, and make them in different colours, or even to make them from slightly different material so its a bit more/less flexible. Thats about it, as far as better fins can be made. I think that ALA's are very close to design-end in hockey fins. Kill me, but thats what I think. Any other successful design will have to heavy-copy on the ALA's. Someone should steal the tools from Technisub...wait... did I just write that??? Delete button on my keyboard isnt working... and also my Kaspersky is blocking me from deleting, and in fact, thats not even me typing, someone has broken in my house and typed that instead of me.... right!

The UW Games 135 fins from leader are completely coated in rubber, but when I asked how long the blade was the response I got back was "about 55 cm", I think that probably puts them even longer than the quattro's

Has anyone tried the specialfin with the omer footpocket, and how would you rate them. Also does anyone know how easy / difficult they are to build if the parts are bought seperately instead of pre-made.

QUOTE] Design end? Are you Mad???? Ala's are a shabby design that's 20 years old, the only reason anybody thinks they're any good at all is because they're the only fin in the last 20 years made of rubber that was designed to go fast. Before they realised that all divers are fat and slow and only want to wander around the bottom for no energy expenditure whatsoever... One day fins designed explicitly for hockey will make us all realise how shabby the humble Ala has always been. sigh... B

Yeah I agree about the alas. They are nice and comfy to wear, but compared to leaders (and I suppose probably most fibre fins but I haven't tried any others) they are pretty slow. The key to it, I think, is the fact that most plastic and rubber fins are pretty dead, so you lose more energy each time they bend (lost to internal friction in the blades).
