plyometrics is really cool, we did it for swim training when we were still too young to go to the gym. just don't injure yourself. Can be a bit hard on the old knees.

Duck is an unknown quantity at this point
There's that old reference again Liam. I think people are trying to tell you something... Might want to retire a champion now before it's too late.

Hi Liam,

apologies for the lack of entries, new baby etc.

Ok for training, yes drop a set or two off the power stuff. I'd say you're on to it with the emphasis on speed and technique now so keep that up.
Gym days should be 2 per week now.
Workout is the same for everyday. So combine the two and adjust accordingly. I'll do the program if you're ensure, just post what you are currently doing and i'll sort it.

Plyometrics are fun. But can be really dangerous as Otto has said. Be very weary.

Key at this stage is to stay injury free so all supplementary training is done with caution now.

You did really well to get to within 0.1 kg of your goal btw.
When i saw you in Melbourne i could definitely see the work you'd done.
Has it helped your game?

atapene will become famous soon enough
ok will stay light on plyometric stuff then.

yeah i have actually noticed an increase in speed in-game, it's been good. probably more importantly i'm a lot more careful about how i eat around training, not just gym-work, which is really good

i think this'll be the last post from me on this thread...

i'd just like to say a huge thank-you to Carl for putting in the time and effort to help us out with all the nutrition and weight training stuff.

for me in particular, its helped me with the way i train in a lot of positive ways, and has helped put a bit of the enjoyment back in my gymwork again. i'll get back in the gym now and start trying to get my weights up without the distraction of training

our programs really helped me carl, just so you know... i used to have a bit of pace when i was young but generally for the last few years i've been middle of the pack and if i get caught out of position i could kiss most runaways goodbye if the forward was fast. but this last comp, i did pretty well in our speed tests and beat quite a few guys that have been faster than me for years, and more importantly i dont remember getting caught out for speed in the games once... couple of close calls but i didn't feel vulnerable to fast forwards like i have in the last couple of comps. (and thats saying a lot considering every bugger there was sporting the latest fibre fins of whichever type and i had some 10 year old alas... quite intimidating at the beginning of the comp)

i'm 100% sure the training program you put me on had a lot to do with my improved speed. so, good work carl, thanks a bunch mate! i recommend you to the next porridge munching nutter.

...end of endorsement

Maybe a new thread but...

Hi Liam,
Does that mean 10 yr old Ala's are as good as the new fibre fins or you just put in more effort in regards to training
Matt

im hoping it means i put more effort into the right training and got a lot out of it

but i still rate the old alas hahaha!

and neither of us has yet won the challenge... i got close and then dropped weight doing other training and after the comp had dropped to 75kg, so i have a lot of work to catch up again.... and benson got to a couple of kgs but didn't manage to hit his 95. plus he is now on holiday and in europe after that so i should hopefully get there in a couple of months now that i dont have to do any pool training! ....maybe.

I would say that it says more about the crap puck that was being used at worlds for some unknown reason. Despite all complaints pretournament we still ended up being effectively shafted by using that rubbish thing.

When I accelerated or swam top speed I couldn't go more than a metre without it popping over my stick.

And... I swam with Breiers there, until I broke them around halftime in one game. Then I pulled on my spare pair of Ala's that had been worn in only two games previously, and I definitely lost speed (judging by winning the strike). Who knows, pop Liam into some Breiers or Leaders and we may have a sprinter on our hands.

Oh, it's sooo not over yet. Went back up to 100kg eating south african steak and chips after worlds but am back down to 97 now. Will notify when Leelee loses the bet...

Speaking of which, do we know what the bet is for yet? I still vote naming rights on the oppositions first born.
