This is exceptionally stupid as it means that no matter how hard I train my body never has the necessary time to recover and adapt appropriately.

Oh well.
are you hitting the gym everydayor are you having rest days in your program ?

[quote=CarlK;4819]Liam,
you weigh yourself daily - get depressed at the lack of weight gain - and then brag that you stay up late, get up late, skimp on brekkie and probably don't recover properly?
Yes, really cool and really smart.
Am i missing something or are you training half heartedly?

sorry, what?
i thought i said i DON"T weigh myself daily for one thing... bragging? how is my saying i go to bed later and get up late and benson saying he stays up late different in that he is honest and i am a braggart? and if i go to bed late, (which i do and always have and which the timing of the pool bookings for hockey has pretty much ALWAYS required), isn't it better to get up late to make sure i do actually get some sleep? so i do have a bit of recovery?

and sorry where do i skimp on brekkie? i'm chowing down all the stuff you've told me to, i'm just doing it at work, not at home before i leave the house... there's maybe 20-25 mins difference.

well, whatever, you can think what you like i guess.

here you go guys, I'M A LAZY DEPRESSED BRAGGART...

now you can tell me i'm honest. is that better?

Now this is good news! I get to tell all my boys that the NZ team has gone lazy and think way to highly of themselves..

See what you get Liam. Next time I see you in a train station and offer you a drink at 11 in the morning, take it. After all, you're a lazy, depressed, braggart and a drink will do ya good.

i dont think of it as lazy... for instance, lazy alex goes to bed at 10pm or some geek-like hour, while i am still up watching movies and doing stuff.... and often driving home from the pool at that hour.
So just to clarify, for maximum training gain we need to apply this formula;
sufficient tarining stimulation + excellent nutrition + excellent execution + perfect recovery + genetics + time +dedication to the plan = you'll get into the shape you want.

We need to tick all of those boxes. We've covered the first three points. Now i'm concerned with the 'perfect recovery' aspect. Sleep, taken correctly is the easiest part of the equation. But an area that does require extra dedication.

Is there anything that is super productive that happens between 10 -12pm for you? Does it help or hinder your goal?

i dunno about other players, but if i play uwh at 9.30/10.00pm i'm probably still quite wired at 11.30pm
getting to sleep after night games is quite a drama.
getting 7.5-8 hours of quality sleep requires rising late the next day.

generally i get about 6 hours of ****ty sleep and grind through the gym and work in morning.

ideal world dedication is one thing, real world sacrifices for your employers are another. sadly no job = no uwh in any case.

the crucial element in your equation [for me] is 'time'

That is a truism.
In the real world time is an enemy to most.
Time management and investment is a crucial factor in most peoples lives.
Funnily enough we all get 24 hours. It's how best to use those hours. Most people have more than a couple of hours that they waste without regard.
So the challenge is to find the wasted time and use it more positively.

I was very guilty of time wastage when i was younger so i do get it. I guess it all goes towards life skills.

Yes, the software censors foul language. Cool huh?

I've dismounted my 'high horse' now.

Do your best with sleep and recovery. Just try to make choices that will aid your goals.
Work is a tough one, but still can be managed.

Smile

That's a good point made regarding sleeping after playing a game. I often find it really difficult to get to sleep after a late night of hockey (finishing 9.30-10pm). Or if by chance I do get to sleep, I'll wake half way through the night very thirsty - even if I have a drink before I go to bed.

Not sure what to do about that. I like my 8 hours sleep
