| Not to interrupt the bumper sticker discussion, but a quick question for atapene: Do you go to the gym on your hockey days at all? If so, do you notice reduced performance in the pool, like shorter bottom times or less speed/power? |
| ||||
| yep i go to the pool on both power days, as it happens, for games at night. but... well firstly i dont have anything to compare with. i dont have nights without gym and nights with... but in any case i dont notice less bottom-time, i would just notice less intensity and commitment to the game if i thought i wasn't staying down long enough. games do vary hugely though from week to week depending on opposition.... and completely different from say a camp, where you've been pumping yourself up and you are psyched for short bursts of high intensity play (hopefully)... club nights tends to be more drawn out like an hour long session, same as in many places. i might take the puck off a schoolgirl who has played 3 years, and then 2 seconds later be destroyed by someone a lot better... and so intensity tends to vary! i might feel a bit of a lack of energy or fatigue set in a bit earlier than usual if i havent eaten properly earlier in the day... i used to feel it when i wasnt hydrated enough, but that hasnt been an issue for quite a few weeks now, certainly not since all this eating! most games i personally tend to float around for most of the game with few subs (there arent a lot of goalies around here) so conserving energy where possible is pretty instinctive and i find it hard to gauge my energy levels unless i'm exhausted. sorry for the drawn out reply!

| Cheers. I personally get tired more easily if I've done a gym session that day or sometimes even the evening before and I was wondering if you had the same. Probably mostly down to a lack of aerobic fitness on my part combined with playing forward (and not having enough subs!). I notice the difference pretty clearly with freediving training, but that's a different kettle of hoki. |

| plus you don't have a nazi controlling your food ![]() eat properly for a while and then revisit your fatigue - me thinks you need more porridge!

| FYI to all... i saw Alex last week, which is the first time in a while. Amazing change in her look! She looks totally different now. Given that she is now out from the rut, i'd saw we'll she a whole new her in the next 10 days. As in, this is the good bit. Keep going Alex, you've already been rewarded for your positive 'take control of myself' attitude - a dream job promotion. People notice don't they. Isn't it funny how positive change leads to positive changes ![]()

| good stuff alex! darn i just get hassled about having a supermarket at my desk and porridge/rice/tuna jokes every time anyone sees me carrying bowls of food from the kitchen. no promotion here... but i think i'm not through my rut yet. i wouldnt be surprised if the biggest factor in fatigue on club nights is lack of water. i REALLY notice that, to the extent where if i havent had enough i get out of the pool and see everything in a thick foggy mist for 20 mins after the game. so ironic, playing in water!

| Hmmm, maybe I do need a nazi in charge of my food... I think dehydration isn't an issue, I drink a shedload of water during the day and I know what it feels like from spearfishing. This is different. The porridge isn't an issue, I start every morning with that or muesli & yogurt. I think its the lack of 'proper' meals during the day if anything. Any suggestions for something quick and reasonably easy to do at work? I tend to work all day and train at night, meaning I get home around 10pm and I'm seldom in the mood to cook something to reheat the next day. I end up mostly relying on protein shakes, tuna and vogels at work. |
