Backflick

Doing a backflick. And doing it during a game. can en wil make the game faster. Like the movies shows. It was the possibilitie to win the personal battle for controll over the puck. were there was no time for another move/flick to pass the puck to the other player.

This flick is made by the backside from the stick so he did not have the turn his stick to its side to flick. Some players do turn there sticks an so do this flick by the underside from the stick. The result is the same. But the way off doing it is different. Its really personal what way every player likes the most.

I like to flick with the underside from the stick. Maybe because i find that way more simple to do. And because i have a defender hook on the backside from the stick and not like this player a slightly bowed line/form on the backside. That bowed line is good for a backflick but make it more differcult to hold/control the puck when having it on the backside from the stick.

So this backflick can be done with a stick made with a slightly bowed line on the back or done by another form stick with the underside from the stick.

I lookt to the dvd again, and your right.
Like you can see on the photo-shots the dvd is from a better qualitie then a movie downloaded to a photobucket or you-tube.

But more important. You play much with the backside. your stick has a slightly bowed line/form (looks like a flat dorsal)
Maybe you can explain how to do it.

The flick with the underside from the stick is like i said easy to do.
It is more like a normal flick only now done with the underside from the stick.

theres a few vids of backflicks on the forums already...

and i posted a series of slo-mos a while ago too.

the key is to spin the puck as much as possible by running it down the passing edge... key way to help with that is to keep the angle of the stick and wrist quite open and bring your elbow back as far as possible when you pass.

Yes i now there are some already on the forum.
Like those i put already above from you youtube movies. (the backflick ladder)
But the second youtube i find it better to see how to do then by the backflick ladder.

But i will try it next friday. I will test a sticks i made for a player in rijswijk. And the backside is more like your stick.
I really must made a photo from it so everybody can see....

So the photo (stick is 30,5 cm long)

I think for a backflick like seen on the movies you need a stick that looks something like this an the backside. Otherwise the puck can not "roll" or "spin" as much as possible by running it down the passing edge.
And is a flick with the underside nessesairy.

But i will try it with this stick.
Maybe my brother can make a movie from it.
When it compleetly goes wrong. SO you have fun to.......

the thing is,itsnotjust the stick. just as it takes your muscles a couple of years to get strong enough to get a big front pass,so it takes quite a while sometimes for your muscles to be strong enough to backflick.

some players have a headstart as they tackle a lot with a similar movement so their muscles are already pretty strong... but for most it would take a few months building it into your practice regime to build it up slowly.

be patient!

What sort of out of water exercises can you do that would help develop the right areas ? (e.g. Bent over dumbell rows ? dumbell curls ?)
