hey belle, yeah the kids over here love that stuff... a few years back our coach at the time, tim alexander, encouraged all the guys in our mens team to experiment with new skills and see what they could come up with. benson went to town on it and came up with the concept of rolling onto your back during skills and as a way to move the puck round the body... ended up with a couple of useful moves out of it. benny is a forward, he has a couple of nice pickups and a way of coming back to tackle an opposition player and roll around very quickly and end up swimming off in the opposite direction. i'm a back, so i kind of changed it a bit to tackle and end up taking the puck off sideways. any time you go upside down you are really vulnerable if you do it in the wrong situation, so it helps to be very comfortable with using it and getting to know when exactly its safe to do it... and sometimes it just ends up a last-ditch type thing when you cant do anything else. always good for novelty value... and like anything else it will help your puck control even if you only use it as a drill... it requires you to use the top face of your stick to play the puck which is a little odd for some people. and its pretty hilarious when you are trying to do it for the first time... being upside down and spinning is very disorientating and you keep forgetting which way the surface is and swimming out in directions you didn't expect! i'll try to find a video clip to send you. liam

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k8xSmg9-s70 wow, youtube, it's great... i uploaded a clip, above is the link, hopefully it works properly. on the clip you can see the strike go horribly wrong for one of the teams, their goalie ends up turned towards his own goal with forwards on him, and uses a barrel roll type move to clear the puck to the side while still swimming backwards away from the forwards, and clears wide to a back. unfortunately the camera almost misses the thing but just enough is kept in screen for you to kind of see how it can be used. as for everything, there were other ways of dealing with the situation, especially since if you watch it closely you'll see that if one of the attacking forwards had stayed down they would have had a nice chance at munching the move completely... but thats kind of the point, it's unexpected and can take people by surprise and mess with peoples game sense. enjoy.

hi peoples, i've put a few other clips up on youtube... video on the web is hard to find of hockey, thought i may as well. most are biased towards kiwis, ie show kiwi players doing this or that or partial footage of kiwi games but hey, hockey is hockey. here are some of the links... the first one is a bit of a freakshow if you can follow where the puck goes, hope the quality of them isn't too rubbish. the links are below. liam http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GyN07MSrtMk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQIquZh2lYo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cP4l1bMrHpA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Dg5GoH8HYM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MT_gwzrm_5k http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zmrtlsOE78Y http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jMi5mt725Z8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mdvyc3V3KKs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VXleu_VHZBQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e3Utjk6CC-M http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wnh4vfPJRKo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YIWyCzMBxss

There's some good clips there. It's good to see some stuff like that on the web. It's also interesting to see what else comes up in the "Related" box in youtube such as the clips form Singapore and the Philippines. I spent ages the other day when you posted the last clip and started following related clips of freediving, then shark diving, then sharks eating whales. I started getting off the track by then.

yeah youtube is awesome. i have just got broadband at home so i'll see if i can find some more. have actually just seen a whole lot of french clips, and some argentinian site has quite a few as well. but i am cheap and cant host stuff myself, so youtube is pretty good. i'll try to dig out some footage of clips we did to teach schoolkids basic skills, me and benson that is, there are some good drills there, nothing new but good demos.
