Stealing the puck

A basic well nown skill all arround the world.
But a basic skill dont mean that it is not important.
Sometimes it can be very helpfull or effective to use those basic skills

STEALING THE PUCK FROM THE OPPONENT

Stealing is a very important skill. Only when you have the puck you can win. When you dont have the puck you can only react to the other team. And defends and hope they don't score. So an steal or interception from the puck can be very important.

Some movie clibs from stealing the puck
Movie 1:
2 times a good steal from the puck:
first the girl steals the puck from a opponent.
but losses the puck on the same way after that to another opponent.
(a 2007 movie)

Second way to steal:
Movie 2:
Steals the puck nearby the wall.(movie from 1988) (see the old model sticks...)
Where you can also see that the girl with the puck tryed to react to the opponent girl but did it to late. If she has had more reaction time she can turn away to the wall. SO you can see how important suprice can be.

But both movies has 1 thing the same. The suprice that you need for a fast and good steal/intersept.
So the opponent does not have the time to counter the move you made/need for stealing the puck

STEALING THE PUCK SIDEWAYS FROM THE OPPONENT

A skill to be used against opponent players that swim in the same direction as yourself.
When you can reach out to the puck. Place the stick in front off the puck and move it sideways towards yourself.
Remember to play the puck first and not the stick first from the opponent. Thats illigal.
When you have the puck like photo then you can do whatever you wnat. Most times turn away from the opponent. so he can not steal the puck back from you.

SO THESE ARE 3 WAYS TO STEAL A PUCK. WHAT WAY DO YOU USE/NEED.

I make also next day(s) a diagram off a way we use sometimes(for some years). My twin used it 4 weeks ago when we trained in Rijswijk in our vacation. And the other player did not now what happend but he did now it works. But it has some risk/dangerous moments in it. Because the first thing to do is not steal or take controll but take the controll away from the opponent. And you need 2 players for it. And these 3 ways i show above are all done with 1 player.

but first. What is your way to steal the puck? To have a basic view, about all those skills.

I've got a couple of novel techniques for you. Remind me in Breda and I'll show you.

ha ha sven
thanks for bringing that up.

i really like getting in behind an attacter as he attacks our area,i sit and wait
and wait and when he confronts our defender,im in right behind him (like a sandwich),when he turns, i take it off him/her.
but
sometimes it is then stolen from me,exactly like in the video(except i fight a bit more)
but when you play against very good forwards it does´nt work as they are trained not to turn, they push forward dummying as they go.
a good few times i followed them almost to the bin, waiting for them to turn.
its also good to get your shoulder in close to them so when they turn and you enter your back is almost touching their chest, you can get it very cleanly.
i tend to forget this a lot in the game though.

i guess if you do a short turn as you steal the puch and elaborate the trun so much then you can keep the puck in close to you so its not easily stolen off you.
or
as you lie waiting in beind the definder, have a peak up (as your on the bottom) and see who is on top looking down, most of the time its an oppositions centre or back
but its all very fast in a game and if you take your eye off the puck you may loose the oppurtunity to steal it.

thanks for th evid

todd is an unknown quantity at this point
a good forward does turn steve, but he does so in a manner that does not allow for the opposition to steal the puck

no player in any position should be limited to what he can do - it just depends on the situation

i'd really like to know that turn tuck, cause theres nothing worse than thinking your clever and stealing the puck for it to be stolen off you.

And the other player did not now what happened but he did now it works. But it has some risk/dangerous moments in it. Because the first thing to do is not steal or take control but take the control away from the opponent. And you need 2 players for it
Very simple
A break out player and one player after him. That are going straight to the last defender.

On the moment the player slows down for a move or flick the player nearby him hits against the puck. Most time becuase he or she can not steal the puck. So the offencive player lost the puck and controll. And the defender get the puck and control. Only the defender now were all players are. He/she looks to the play. SO he can choose how to swimm away. For a counter/breakout.

For some . This is done a few weeks ago with and against top-class from the Netherlands.
The attacker was from (top-class) Breda. And the last defender was M.Heindijk.(an top-rank international) So it does not only work in the lower sub-top classes. Also against top-rankers. But like I said before it’s a risky move. Against all philosophies you hit the puck straight to you last defender and own gool. Most safe to swimm in this drawing to is the left side. The attacker can not turn fast becuase there is still another player.

Please remember.
Don't swim under the offencive player and push him up.
Don't hit the stick its illigal. Hit the puck
Don't lift the stick from the opponent.
GO under it when i lift his stick for a flick or go over it when he dont do that
PLAY THE PUCK! not the stick.!!
