todd is an unknown quantity at this point
i found when i just throw the puck up it doesn't really emulate what would happen in a game...

how many times does the puck go up then straight back down during play?..

Todd, that's ok, just get used to moving in the water, your hand eye coordination, discovering what the puck does after you hit it back up. HOw much force it takes to "catch" the puck, hit the puck back up, what kind of angle you can keep your stick at... etc... remember its just one aspect of practicing this skill. If all you have is yourself, a puck and water this will help, not as much as a friend lobbing pucks at you, but it is something that can help.

nothing worse than throwing a decent pass for a team-mate to run onto only to have him reach out/back and knock it down as soon as he can reach it, and then see him get destroyed by an opposition player because he's made the puck static and put himself off balance.

controlling the puck like we're talking about is a nice medium between getting control asap and keeping the pucks momentum, i think. i'm all for it.
This is actually what i'm really after. The mistake I made in my example was knock down the pass. What I should have done is re-direct the momentum and control the puck. WHat I'm thinking is the times to keep the momentum of the puck it might be better to do that mid water rather than letting it hit bottom and chase it. What I would preach in this whole idea is NEVER make the puck static. the ideal in my mind isn't a medium between getting control and keeping momentum, it is controlling WITH momentum AND in the direction you want.
Does that make any sense?
Benson's drill is all about this. Don't just practice knocking down passes, at the worlds level everyone should be reasonably good at that anyway, and as you point out can be a bad choice at times. But practice putting the puck down where you want MOVING in the direction you want, no matter where the puck comes from.
I like it anyway

Is now some day realy silent by this topic. So we are goining to the next move.
A simple move. I show it her with photos. Maybe some tank-rank players can tell more about it.

And yes i now on some photos i'm to far from the bothem off the pool.
It is done on purpose so you can better see what is done with the stiock and puck.
Also i did not swim much when doing it.(because off the photos)
Keep always swimming when you do a move.

from left to right photos 1 to 3

From left to right photos 4 and 5

Trowing the puck (tic-tac)

Is now some day realy silent by this topic. So we are goining to the next move.
A simple move. I show it her with photos. Maybe some tank-rank players can tell more about it.

First 3 photos trowing the puck sideways in front off yourself.

1 to 3 from left to right

After that ther are many possible thing you can do.
I post her 2 ways to catch the puck and trow it back.
!! it is only effective when the game is goining fast an the opponent reacts on every move.

The first (short version)

The second (long version)

From left top right, on the second photo you can see that its realy a trow/sweep and no lift from the puck for a long time. On that photo you can see the puck already away from the stick.(puck is before the playing arms schoulder. But left the stick before the non playing arm schoulder.)
The last photo i used here 2 times. Sorry it is not easy to make photos when the puck is in mid water.

lot of posts there.

sven, in the first sequence you posted, you are doing what the world has dubbed "the benson" move. you will find it much easier to do if you angle your wrist further forward in the first frame until the top face of your stick is contacting the puck, and use that top face to play the puck through the move. as it is, you are using your hook and it's possible for the puck to slide underneath... if your stick has some weird bumps to prevent this then thats good for you but control is better kept on the top face anyway.

hard to follow your pics with the passes so it's hard to tell how you're trying to do it. how far do your passes travel? are you trying to spin the puck or just lift it up?

I now. I use it myself also often.(sorry Benson its a simple move)

Thanks. SO i learn something also. I try it next fryday.
and use that top face to play the puck through the move. as it is, you are using your hook
No this stick on the picture was an hookless stick. Normal i do it with a stick with a hook. Thats far more easyer.
and it's possible for the puck to slide underneath... if your stick has some weird bumps to prevent this
Yes that is also 1 reason for those lines on top off my sticks
then thats good for you but control is better kept on the top face anyway.

You mean in the last series photos?

And no we are not trying to lift the puck (its not allowd by the rules to lift the puck on your stick)
We are pushing it sideways after catching in the midwater. and then give it a sweep like you are doining in 2D when you flick the puck. Most times the puck traveld about 1,5 meter. Sometimes more.

Ha haa, yes the Benson is a simple move. Well, that one is anyway... One day I'll find time to post the next 7 variations up here for you. By hook Liam meant the back edge of your stick, not the knob on the end commonly referred to as a hook, and he's right - the move is much easier if you push past the puck at the initial point of wrist rotation and control the puck with the top face of the stick.
