| OK pull arm back, popeye forarms. Lovely, I can do that (eat more spinach). not sure i can move my thumb position, thats too much thinking! You can see i am doing plenty of press ups. The one in the vid looks massive. Is it easier to do with a stick that has less of a hook (like the one in the vid)? I would guess so, i have some slick flickers which seem to be good for everything.. thanks for the tips guys. Sophia |

| obviously it helps to have a decent bevel and a smooth hook... but slick flickers have a really good inside edge for backflicking, no worries.

| Yes, the great Sophia Tapper and her Inverse hook turn hahahaha I've seen her try it quite a few times to no avail, having being one of the big mean men hitting her while she tries it, but last night she tried it on Rees (of all people to try it on!) and pulled it off! I was suitabliy impressed!! You people need to stop giving her tips! She is getting too good maybe make sure theres a fault in the techniques that you give her, like a fail safe

| Gotta love youtube! Yeah I'll agree with the slick flickers being good for back flicks. I also agree with Duck about rotating your stick in you hand for practice. Granted, it is a different flick than the original one that Liam is talking about but it gives you a good feel for how the puck should run off the back edge of your stick and doesn't require as much wrist strength to begin with. When I started I'd do a few without the roatation until my hand and wrist got fatigued and then continue with a few with the rotated stick which gives more of a "throwing" action. I think one of the keys to a good back flick is to get the snap at the end of the movement right, the same as a pass off the front edge. Get the puck rolling along the inside edge and then the little snap at the edge to launch the puck. Once you get this right you should be able to do it pretty quickly, like when swimming with the puck on the front edge flat out down the right side of the pool with a defender chasing you. You can see your support coming down the inside but don't have enough time to get a flick off. BAM, quick back flick and you're away! A similar situation is when you are a defender swimming back towards your own goal and have an opposition forward hassling you. A good old back flick can get you out of the **** there too. I found this one, compliments if Singapore. It's in the last few seconds of the clip. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5zvXHjE3YzI I'm also with Liam about it being a great pass, if you can master it it opens up so many opportunities. Keep practicing!

Everybody/players moves different. So the move will be a little different. Try to discover how it works for yourself. But those you tube movies (to bad they have a bad resolution) Are a good gideline to see the basics off the movements. Quote:
A flick from the inside(back?hook?side) Its quite simple. But practisch helps. Only with my own personal stick i flick with the underside from the stick and with the backside i trown the puck. Some moves you just have another model stick for. So its depending how you play or want to play how your sticks look like.

| just before we veer off topic onto beginners learning barrel rolls and other mayhem, back quickly to backflicks... this might interest some folks. i had a freeze frame look at the backflick tape from the other day and the file had more frames in it than i have had the chance to see before. it shows something quite interesting, see the attached pic. you can clearly see the puck roll up the inside edge at the start, spinning nicely as expected, then it starts to slip off the top of the edge, again thats as expected, but then in frame 5 of both examples you can see the end of the hook as it pulls through underneath the puck actually catches the puck and gives it a big extra dose of spin at the very end, enough to flatten the angle of the puck after its already started to hang vertically in frame 4... then the puck wobbles back to a stable vertical position afterwards. i didn't expect to see that... theres no way to get a similar boost with the front edge pass i guess.

| ...but it doesnt always happen, i just checked another one. seems you can get that hook effect if you are passing back towards your feet on a bit of an angle, but if you are passing straight across your body towards your left hand along the line of your shoulders, not necessarily... well i cant be stuffed freezing that one right now but it showed the puck coming off the end of the hook for that pass anyway.

But to make you happy. "Nice flick" ![]() But much discusion is there not about. For 8 days there was nothing posted before i placed that movie. But i can tell you that roll is done during a game. Its only 3 seconds form a 30 minuts tape. And like a backflick a turn or roll are also important during a play. All skills and technicks are important. That roll can be very effective. Only not when there is a opponent in front off you. Then he can steal the puck very easy. This short movieclip Stealing the puck and making a turn/roll. Its also an easy way to chanch direction ![]()
