Karin, the Prince of Belgium and UWH

Saturday the 8th of September 2007, FEBRAS-BEFOS has been honored with the title of “Royal” federation. A celebration ceremony has been held in the prestigious Hôtel de Ville of Brussels in presence of His Highness the Prince Laurent of Belgium, Achille Ferrero CMAS President, Freddy Thielemans Mayor of Brussels City, Robert Henry FEBRAS-BEFOS President, Laurent Blanc FFESSM President and the NOB President. Underwater Hockey was represented by Romain Alderweireldt and Sébastien Snoeck co-founders of the Brussels UnderWater Hockey (BUWH) who had invited Karin Veltman CMAS UWH World Champion for the Netherlands in 2004 to the ceremony.


Karin had the mission to introduce underwater hockey to His Highness the Prince Laurent. Obviously, she has successfully achieved her duty…

PS Regarding William: When I was playing in Sctoland with the Aberdeen University Team (AUWH), William was studying in St-Andrews. As he was already a member of the university waterpolo team there were some vague impulses to add him fins and google. I don't know if attemps went really further or have even succeed... but at least a UWH team has been launched in St-Andrews in the meantime.

About celebrities: Patrick Musimu has played and trained with us a couple of time:

"In June 2005, within 3 weeks and only 10 dives Patrick Musimu marked history by diving consecutively to 100, 136, 151, 170, 185 metres, and on the 26 th of June, he finally reached the mythical mark of 200 metres.

On the 30 th of June, his body exhausted forced him to stop after a dive at 209,6 metres, shattering the deepest human performance registered by almost 40 meters.
Never in the diving history, such a gab between performances has been achieved."

Otherwise for a TV show we have introduced a local "celebrity" to UWH but that is pretty it.

Patrick Musimu - Extremely controversial freediver. A lot of bad blood between him and AIDA unfortunately. Like Mifsud, he claims 'world records' using his own rules and with no drugtests, line tests, etc.

Still would be fairly good at hockey, though the crossover isn't quite as big as you may think.
