| bit of a games update, though i know the results are upon the cmas site as well... it's so much more social to read it here! this morning the french women turned up and began destroying everyone. they were hardly polished but still beat spain comfortably 14-0. turkish men played slovenia and beat them 9-1 in a game with 3-4 sinbins for each team which was interesting, consistency level still not amazing but reffing was better for that game (in my biased opinion) btw, the uwr teams are a staunch breed... guys just whip their pants off poolside with not a care in the world, girls play in unlined white togs. ...

| aw can i even be bothered posting this? oh well, briefly. so turkey women played spain again today, won 8-1, reversing the previous result. then the turk men played belgium. first half, 5-1 up. then the refs stepped in with a vengeance. basically, they started sinbinning people willy nilly, they only had 3 stopwatches and some tiny kids doing the clocks, the turk guys at one stage were being held out for up to 4 mins for 2 min fouls and so the sinbin started to stack up, only 2 turks in the water, belgians came back during that time, then were sinbinned as well again... whole game degenerated into a farce basically. chief refs desk was a massive mess of confused people afterwards, someone complained about the timekeeping mistakes cos a turkish manager had been timing the guys out and it was all wrong, laurent the french ref guy asked for the turkish managers id card and nearly caused a fight by trying to grab it off his neck (this is a vip govt official), and towards the end of the game the spanish ref dramatically subbed out clutching his back and had to be replaced with another ref. but i saw him wandering around comfortably just after the game. unbelievable. huge kerfuffle afterwards, general warnings for all coaches to try to keep everyone calm when mistakes are being made (not taken well by coaches)... it certainly has it's exciting moments. anyway, so turkey still won, i hate to think what could have happened if they hadn't and the reffing stuff had reversed the outcome after that 5-1 halftime scoreline which was at that stage a pretty decent competitive game and fairly clean... good grief what a joke. anyway, so work in progress, i'm sure it will get much better and this will all fade away quickly. i'm sorry i didnt take note of other games scores apart from france men beating spain 9-0... tomorrow will be a couple of interesting games, slovenia vs spain in the mens and turkey-france in both grades. poor belgium women took a loss against france and they had been at the pool for a training and drills session immediately prior to the match, they must have been exhausted! eryl is taking a lot of trouble to drill them mercilessly so i'm thinking we will see some improvements in their results against the mortal teams later on. long long waits in the buses to get back to the dorms tonight for some reason, big waits for dinner, not cool... generally accepted now that the organisation as a whole and not just the uwh bit is patchy in places. hope you guys enjoy the podcast with benson, sorry for making fun of the french but i think it's compulsory right now as it might be the only points anyone scores against them in bari hahahaha. does anyone have any requests for people for me to gun down and interview in my spare time, not that theres a lot of it? coaches? players? organisers? other athletes? canteen staff?

Anything else he might want to talk about. Might be interesting to here from an organizer type person as well. Just their thoughts on everything and anything related to the comp. |

| Hey Liam Nice podcast with Benny. Sounds like you guys are having fun. Is there any talk over there with whats happening for the next CMAS games? Is it in 2 years time? Where will it be held? There was talk at some stage about potential qualifying tournaments? Anything info you could find out would be good! Also are any of the uwh teams there planning on going to Durban? |

| is Guillame Watelet there? another player turned coach. Maybe one of the spanish guys - they certainly seemed to have made some significant changes in last year or 2.

| rule according to rules of play, if coach or other NON player behaves badly, person is dismissed/removed from pool deck. Without looking it up, I also believe a player from that team spends 1,2,5 in box (could be dismissed), determining by calling ref, and team plays short as usual with timed penalty.

| quick update... sorry the days seem to be going quickly now we are nearly up to knockouts time is just flying by and i'm always busy, i'll try to get some opinions poolside but really i was able to do a talk with benny just cos he happened to be in my room... but i'll try. anyway turk women played french this morning and lost 12-0... slovenia played italy and won 2-0 in a really tight game... turkish men played france also in the morning and france won 6-1, turks scored the first goal forcing the french to call a timeout immediately in the first minute of the game. score coming up to halftime was 2-1 to france after the turks had a man sinbinned and the french capitalised on an advantage puck in front of goal... turks made a late breakaway just before halftime and put the puck in the french bin in a buzzer-beater attempt but the buzzer just sounded as the goal went in and so it was disallowed. second half and the foul count went against the turks and more sinbins, the french took control of the game though the turks did get another couple of spells up on the french bin and narrowly missed a handful of chances. tonight spain play slovenia and turkey play italy in the mens... depending on results the seedings could swap around a bit so these two especially are important games for all the teams involved. less reffing outcry this morning which was good... lots of cheering poolside which is positive. i hear today is the last day of finswimming... and apparently all the swimmers are leaving to go on holiday or go home? i hope its not true, surely they could have waited to have all the finals roughly on the same couple of days so all the athletes could be there? maybe there isnt even a finals party, i know theres a closing ceremony but maybe theres nothing official... this place will seem like a ghost town without the finswimmers anyway but at least we will have the rugby players to marvel at.
