| it does look fairly small from on top but as is often the case with divewells its bigger underwater! not sure how long it is but i'd guess around 12-15m wide? 4m deep. a whole lot of danish and german uwr players just rolled up, will ask someone for you. also off-topic, a couple of the french finswimmers just went down to dinner surrounded by a lot of laughing team-mates... guy was dressed in chicks togs with handprints in paint on the bum and full-on moulin rouge makeup, the girl covered in glitter and wearing a bikini made entirely out of BROWN SELLOTAPE, i kid you not. i don't know what dare they lost, but i'm going to try to find out!

| yes horrific, see attached pic... and yeah Sahika is competing in that event, she hasn't arrived here yet though, i met her in turkey. the french players had to do this because it was their first world championship competition for both of them... yikes.

| uwr yes the pool is small - smaller than regulation but about same size as used for a WC either in '99 or '03. They play much deeper - refs on scuba. Play does not get into corners or use as much of the playing area as uwh does. Their subbing is different and some other stuff too. USA had team in '99 and men and women in '03. Also pool is out of doors and did not have any cover when we saw it last fall. It must be hotter than hell there, but I heard cover was to be organized. I suggested teams go inside - aquatic center where uwh played, between games. Heat stroke is real threat. Also when we saw pool, it had 3' (1m) filthy water in it. Very inviting! Both fin and rugby pools out of doors.

| tuck, spoke to a german uwr player who says the pool is enormous... 4.5m deep, very long and wide for uwr they reckon. go figure. also can answer your socializing question partly... yes it's good. i just had a chat with a bunch of russian freedivers in their room, have spoken to venezuelan freedivers and ecuadorian finswimmers... the comp hasn't even started. to be honest, this thing really does feel like the olympics in some ways. colombia are here now, denmark, norway, poland, russia, china, i saw egyptians today, then all the south americans... theres a couple of countries i have never even heard of. however, still problems with the warmup games, still no pool tomorrow cos of the barriers, but i've managed to wangle us into the lanes of the warmup area adjacent to the playing area so we can at least swim... otherwise theres no space for us anywhere. will see what tomorrow brings, and what the tiles are like.

| yep the pools are outdoors but they have covered areas right next to it with some seating, which looks adequate for a few teams waitingg to play or spectating... no shade as yet for the finswimming pool right next to it. the water in the uwr pool is beautiful, heres a pic... a little dust on the tiles as they've never had a puck on them (until today! ) but the pool is lovely. it is hot here but wasn't actually too bad at the pool... because its outdoors theres a nice breeze and we actually felt the heat more in the indoor pool areas....but to be honest i'm only interested in the hockey bit.

| ...and a few more. as you can see the big problems are... - barriers made from sign card - weights not tied on - goals made from sharp tin, could be edges and cuts you can see they have long sections of concrete in there too... they have small lengths of this every couple of meters inside the plastic barriers, but from peering down the ends i see that the conc isn't flush against the wall on the inside and theres nothing keeping it there... if the wall takes a big hit it'll crumple like cardboard first and then hit the heavy stuff behind. i've discussed with them and they are waiting to see the results of the warmup games which are now on for tomorrow... i just hope the things will stay alive for a few hours or wont just dissolve in the first game. the gym weights is a good idea... the corners have been tied in securely, donato who is the hockey tourney controller has played the game so he does know of some of the stresses that is going on this stuff, but unfortunately 40 days ago he was shown a solid nylon plastic about 5mm thick and told that was what the bariers would be made of... and then yesterday this bubble-wrap signcard turned up. so they are just trying to make the best of what they have to work with. i think its doable if they can get 2 lengths of the concrete inside all the way around, or maybe one length up against the interior wall to take the impacts with some packers every few meters behind them... but geez it's a bit touch and go. i think the womens comp could be played ok as it is now, but the mens, the first guy trying to stall for a few seconds after the puck goes wide could blow a hole through the things if they don't make them stronger tomorrow. we'll see! (btw, no disrespect to the women but most of the forces in the mens games are with objects about 30kg heavier than in the womens... i'm just talking physics and natural steroids/testosterone!) in the meantime, yeah this just gets funnier and funnier. kazahkstan, japan, korea, hungary, mexico, croatia... the lunchroom is like a zoo, it's awesome. uwr are now practising, i'm glad there is a sport sillier than ours... but to be fair all the players look like athletes and there are some big solid teams from finland etc that if they played hockey would be a tough bunch to stop.
