decided to sit this one out and concentrate on development and improvement for 2010 - this decision was made wayyyyyyyy before USA decided to bid for 2010 WC and had no bearing on the decision. It was strictly an internal decision by the women. In US we keep rabbits in hutches.

sounds fair. sorry this is falling off topic but is the US hosting in 2010 then or it's still to be decided? doesn't bother me personally, would be nice to have another comp in the states, just wondering if it's all confirmed already. where would it be likely to be held?

and monster, no need to guess about playing numbers, tris has pretty accurate figures (give or take some unregistered peoples) and has been keeping track of them for the last few years, i'm sure he'll post them up for you upon reading your questions.

as for the intent behind your questions, i dont think you are going to find nz is much different than anyone else. no-one should be singing that its tougher for them than others.
Was just curious as to the membership and how many people want to play at the top level over that was all

No guess. if you do not have this basic information you can not plan and are not considered a sport just a recreational activity in NZ.

1156 members are registered by paying an affiliation fee. 706 are Juniors (u18) are registered paying NZD 6 the rest are full members paying NZD50. Approximate increase of 10% From 2006 TO 2007 in membership. I believe we have about 10-20% active (Play once a month) but not registered.

How many members does your country have?
Im not privy to actual numbers but I would say GB arent that far off numbers wise

GB has now made it more difficult for us all and the future of our sport, they seem to have quickly forgotten who went into bat for them when CMAS decided to take the Sheffield championships of them and move it to Serbia. A number of individuals put allot on the line for them.

Those individuals were vindicated in their actions as Serbia did not even send a team to the CMAS games and Sheffield was such a success ( sorry I am dwelling in the past).

Now GB has division in its own ranks and division from the rest of the world, something that will take years to repair if indeed it can be repaired at all. I do not understand the comment about BUSA from Monster as if the BOA got on board then they do not need BUSA, BUSA was set up solely to deal with CMAS they do not have any recognition to government so the BOA would not be affected.

To want to play in a B grade tournament certainly brings into question your commitment to the sport and the standing of yourselves as a once competitive group. The looser here will be English hockey,.

On the up side Scotland and Wales will now have a free run to climb the ladder.

Cheers
Hi Graham, I am assuming from reading your comments that both France and Netherlands have left CMAS and joined WAA then? Or is that not correct?

...you dont HAVE to leave cmas to join waa. its up to cmas to say you cant come back afterwards. cmas may force the issue... or they may find they have only 5 teams entering their games, and open the comp to all comers, waa-sympathetic or not.

who knows how it will pan out.

Monster,

Membership numbers in UK probably 3-4 times NZ Adult playing numbers. (See Graph attached.) We have 447 members over 14 clubs spread from Auckland to Invercargill. What is our strenght is that we have over 700 secondary school students across 50 secondary schools but Underwater Hockey still a very minor secondary school sport.

Womens Squad - We started with 20 plus the camps were combined with Junior Womens to give a total squad of 50. We then had 36 front up with $500 and attend the Combined Camp in December.
