Does anyone know if anything came of the intended visit by CMAS to the Euro clubs in Slovenia this weekend? I heard that they were sending someone there to talk directly to the players.

Yes the President of CMAS is attending to have a dialogue with anyone who is interested. He is coming to try and convince teams to attend his doomed CMAS games in Bari, which he wants to be the world championships for hockey. He is trying to save them, but it is too late

The USA, NZ, OZ, Canada, Holland, Colombia, Ireland and South Africa have told CMAS they are not attending the games. He will also be there to Dump on the hockey commission for exercising their democratic rights and not agreeing with him and doing as they are told.

CMAS is in a pickle because their own rules state that they must have a minimum of 10 teams from at least 3 continents for it to be a world championship. So far they have 7 teams from 1 continent which is Europe.

Underwater hockey is at the end of the road with CMAS as CMAS is now holding the growth of the sport back. At the 2008 World Championships to be held in Durban South Africa we will most likely see teams from Scotland, Jersey, Wales and also Argentina will be able to return.

The women's competition is certainly doomed for Bari as most of the European countries that will be attending do not even have women's teams, Slovenia, Serbia, Germany, Belgium and Hungry to name a few.

The commission is already working with South Africa to make the Durban worlds the best to date and with the current exchange rate things will be allot cheaper than in the past.

Hope this information is of use.

Cheers

Worlds Durban 2008 - DATE?

I saw a recent letter from SA saying that they have yet to decide on the dates for the competition. At the moment they are keen on April/May as per 1996, but are also looking at July (as was agreed in Sheffield as being the preffered month). Their concerns are that accommodation will be less available and more expensive then as that is peak season.

Can we have a poll here on the FORUM?

Does anyone have any more updates as to what is happening with the whole Underwater hockey vs CMAS thing? Will the comp in SA be recognised by CMAS as the world champs? if not are we withdrawing from CMAS? Is Bari still going ahead?

Would be nice to know what is going on.

Sheffield was such a well organised and managed worlds it would be a shame to change things...

The sport formerly known as "Underwater Hockey"

At the restaurant after hockey on Friday night, Michaela and a few others were brainstorming some new names for the sport we currently know as "Underwater Hockey"... perhaps she may be able to enlighten us on the progress

What would be a good alternate name for our sport?

Another bonus from breaking up with CMAS would be that we could get a new logo - who hasn't been embarrassed and ridiculed when showing your medal to others?!

Aqua Challenge

The name that will most likely be used is Aqua Challenge.

If anybody wants to submit a logo then i suggest you do it ASAP as we need to get a move on as far as organising a few loose ends.

Please submit them to me.

Regards
GH
