| look what I found, you need to go to the site and join to get Durban info for 2008 go to www.auf.org.au seems you can join and get more info on Durban. AquaChallenge News Page 2008 World Championships The dates for the 2008 world championships have been confirmed, they are from 21/4/08 through to 4/5/08. The 2008 World Championships will be held in the Kings Park Pool, Durban South Africa. This is the same venue that was used for the 1996 World Championships. The pool is 2 metres deep all over and we will have exclusive rights to the facility during the championships. We will bring you more information as it comes to hand. Mouth Guards It is now compulsory to wear mouth guards at all WAA competitions. All internally fitted mouth guards are approved for use and also WAA approved external mouth guards can be used. Approved external mouth guards can be purchased from the WAA secretary, for price and availability contact Carol Rose CROSEUSOA@aol.com for information. These mouth guards are the only external type approved by the WAA and are the only external ones that can be used at a WAA event. Tournament rule change At the commission meeting held in Sheffield in August it was decided to increase the number of games that can be played in a day from 2 to 3. This was done to make the world championships shorter so there would be cost savings to the participants. It has been agreed by the Association that the world championships in their present format are taking to long to run and with the increasing number of teams this situation would only get worse. The Association is also looking at running 3 courts simultaneously in an effort to minimise the length of the competition. If 3 games a day were run on any number of days then all the teams competing will have the same amount of games per day at some point throughout the competition. The scheduling for the next world championships in Durban South Africa will be run this way. Refereeing Director The Association welcomes Mr. Pizzaz van Schalkwyk to the position of refereeing director. As you may be aware Mr. Murray Brooks who has been the refereeing director for the past 20 years did not seek re election at the Sheffield meeting. We wish Murray all the best for the future and thank him for his contribution over the past 20 years. Mr. van Schalkwyk is an experienced referee with some great ideas for lifting the standard of refereeing at a world level, so we feel sure that there will be some positive changes in the future. He can be contacted at kpvs@absamail.co.za Citizenship Rules The rules in relation to citizenship are as follows; All athletes of a national team must have the nationality of the country or submit proof that they have been a resident of that country for the previous 4 years. (the residency must be continuous it can not be accumulative) Dual nationality, Athletes having dual nationality may choose to compete for one or another country, but this choice obliges them for a period of three years as a minimum. These rules will be in force for the 2008 world championships and be retrospective from 1st September 2006 AquaChallenge game rule changes At the rules meeting in Sheffield a number of modifications to the game rules were made. These are currently being processed by the rules director, once this is done we will put a summary on this page. | piranarai, are you saying that there could be 2 different teams going to bari and durban from colombia, with different players? does anyone know if cmas will still be trying to blacklist players attending durban? so, if colombia sends a team to bari, wins the comp and gets funding from the colombian government, if colombia then goes to durban would they lose that money or be prevented from competing in other cmas events after that? or could they just use cmas events to get money from the government to help pay for the cmas events AND the world cups? where has the "world cup" naming proviso suddenly come from? romain, do you know anything more about it? is this some sort of compromise between cmas and the commission? surely if cmas are happy to have the durban comp and others like it go ahead with only a name change then its the easiest opion for all... or would that come with payments to cmas etc and all the usual rubbish that sparked these problems in the first place? |

| Everytime I think I understand where this whole thing is going something else pops up. Seems to me per CMAS's rules a "world cup" would not solve the problems, Payments to CMAS etc and all... but this is the first i've heard of any kind of compromise having been talked about. I suppose we will know quite a bit more in a week or so when the CMAS AGM is completed. If nothing else it should be interesting to hear what comes from that. CMAS General Assembly Agenda Topic number 9 = "Hockey Vs. CMAS" and topic 11.1 "CMAS/AIDA" The first being obvious as to the impact upon the sport, but the second one way or another will set a precedent on how athletes will be affected by competeing under different organizations, like the Columbians in Atapene's question. |

| WTD has told me that he is flying out this Thursday to attend the CMAS meeting. Perhaps he'll enlighten us all upon his return? Anyhow best of luck in Rome Hendo ![]()

| CMAS has asked Carol, Graham and Neil to change the name of the Durban event before Sheffield. I have personnaly called twice Graham about that. I wonder what happened this weekend in Rome as CMAS was not excpecting Graham to be there. There is no reason to choice between Durban and Bari. There is just discussions with an open mind to be lead and compromise to be reach. People who like to play will do everything in order to attend both events  |

| I don't think that someone living in Europe (presumably earning euros) has quite the same perspective as someone from the exact opposite end of the world, earning AUD or (slightly) worse NZD, on attending major comps in consecutive years... in Europe. |
