Spam

Can i get an indication from the members about the eefect of the spam on this board.

The Admins & Mod's are spending way too much time deleting junk spam etc.

To change board software is going to cost. Which is fine, no prob.

But there will be some hassle attached. You may lose your avatars momentarily, private messages may go. Maybe some other things not sure.

I'll do it if you guys want it.

yeah spam bothers the hell out of me, i get enough crud in my email every day without finding it clogging up a forum on my favourite sport as well.

if spam increases any further i am likely to unsubscribe and not bother any more.

Im currently deleating up to 5 new spam members a day. it is time consuming and the rudest things I have ever seen, must be a better way,but I still want to PM and keep my avitar.
I will continue to deleate the spamers to keep UWHW spam free for you all and mabe we will get some sort of update to stop it.

amc32,

just to make sure we're on the same page.
I'm referring to mostly porn, viagra etc that gets posted here on the forum.
We see it & delete it of course.

If you're getting email then you maybe subscribed to which ever thread is sending it to you.
In effect you're notified whenever there's a new post made.
That function is in the user's control only.
Just double check that when you're on a thread that you're not subscribing to it by accident.
Alternatively, click the unsubscribe option on the notification email.

Hope that helps

yeah, that's the stuff
i keep online pretty much all day and nosey about all over the site. but cos lots of folks, like me, use odd nom de guerres [and i use nom de guerre most specifically for the cage users] it's tough to distinguish a legitimate new posting from spammer junk.

i'd happily help delete any spam that i saw, but i realise that extending the right to delete messages to all and sundry would lead to aggrieved parties deleting legitimate posts by those they disagree with.

can you make 'stop watching this thread' the default option when posting to a topic? i really only want to read my own opinions  so getting an email every time a new posting is made clogs up my email. i check in often enough that i don't need reminders that the forum continues without me. though how it manages is beyond me.

duh, just found a nifty little option on profile page that turns off the automatic messages you get when new posts are made.
problem solved.

Tuck is on a distinguished road
Check out the BOA forums memberlist for an idea of what can happen if the spam senders are ignored while the posts are deleted. I can't speak for anyone else, but i kinda like being able to sift through the memberlists to see who's here. Good luck finding anyone real on that forum.

The only things actually lost would be old PMs right? we'd still be able to PM in the future, and then just have to re-do the avatar right?? so in the long run nothing would be changed?
