Any interest in a Wikipedia style site for uwh training information?

Hiya,
I want to set up a wiki website for uwh training information (eg skills how-tos, fitness training etc) and want to check there isn’t something like this already available? If you know of such a site, please give the address

Do you think there would be any interest in such a site? This forum is a great place to ask people specific questions, but it can be difficult to search for information in a forum format as there can be a lot of threads on each topic and it is easy for a thread to veer off from the original question. I decided to create a wiki site for this after trawling through the forum looking for a how-to for an inside flick and finding many threads about it.

It can take a while for a wiki to have enough information to be useful, especially for the more experienced player; it depends on contributions from players (especially from the more experienced, I myself do not have enough knowledge to write the uwh information).

I’m currently researching the best way to host this site (if you know anything about setting up a wiki, I’d appreciate any advice) so it’ll be a while before I’m even at the stage of needing contributions; I thought it best to find out if there is any interest before going further.

Netherlands looking for some support

Hi all,

a small and lovely message from your fellow underwaterhockey players in the Netherlands.

At this time we are doing the first enquiries to see if there are teams/nations that find it a good idea to have the Masters and Youth World Championships in Holland, 2nd week of July 2011. We have just had a brainstorm session, and with that in mind we think we can organize a very cheap WC. This because we had a new pool build in Dordrecht that wants to make a name for itself, so a big international tournament would come in handy. Also we have a very great team of potential volunteers in Dordrecht and Breda who are willing to put a lot of effort into the event. Last but not least: we have heaps of experience with tournaments (see the 40th-something version of the Mosseltournament in Dordrecht and the 20th-something Argonauta tournament) both well visited by players from all over the world.

Some minor issues we couldn't agree on, and on which I'm asking the underwaterhockey community to please help us in our brainstorm is the age for the youth teams.
We don't think an U19 and U23 competition is eligible since you will see shattering of the teams and not one big youth competition, but then it is the question, what age do we want?
Some say U19, some say U21 and some proposed U23.
Our mindset on these ages:
- U19 would be great for the younger players to get in contact with the sport on an international level, only the financial dues such as flying over could be an issue, mostly for teams that have to travel far.
- U21 would be ideal, some of those players are to be Elite players in few years, but they might just be in the places 14 and 15 at the moment because all the 'old folks' keep them out on experience. It would be a great incentive for those players to play at Worlds.
- U23 would mean a lot of Elite players who are still young (or players from the NZ 'Colts' and SA 'Mad Cows') would play in this tournament and bump out all players who are just on the edge of getting into the (higher levels of the) game.

For the masters we also want to keep the costs low since a lot of them have a family and we know that is pricy.

Objectives are:
- _Well organized_ tournament
- _Cheap_ tournament
- Opportunity for young players to meet and see the international level
- Opportunity for masters to meet, see old friends and have some great games
- Good video's
- *Great party* at the end of it all

Please reply to this thread by sharing your thoughts on the matter of the ages and if it is possible for teams from far (NZ, OZ, SA, COL) to make it to the tournament in July 2011.

Hope to see your replies,

Simon
