I dont now how it looks. Did they look something like the CanAm gloves?
Not sure of the Argentinians but the CanAm glove is of the type used mostly in Eastern Canada. It consists of layers of grip tape, which is thick rubbery and mostly sticks to itself better than anything else, then a few layers of electrical tape to hold it all together and keep it slick for the pool bottom.

I tried making one myself years ago. It was one of the heaviest gloves I'd ever put on. Found out later I used about 3 times the amount of grip tape I was supposed to use, but I was really paranoid about the amount of (or rather lack of) protection. When made correctly they are supposed to be much lighter and more manuverable than most other gloves.

They look like just a few strips of electrical tape, but are a bit more than that. biggest benifit is you are holding the stick with very nearly a bare hand, so you have much better feel and grip.
