| hey belle,
yeah the kids over here love that stuff... a few years back our coach at the time, tim alexander, encouraged all the guys in our mens team to experiment with new skills and see what they could come up with. benson went to town on it and came up with the concept of rolling onto your back during skills and as a way to move the puck round the body... ended up with a couple of useful moves out of it. benny is a forward, he has a couple of nice pickups and a way of coming back to tackle an opposition player and roll around very quickly and end up swimming off in the opposite direction. i'm a back, so i kind of changed it a bit to tackle and end up taking the puck off sideways.
any time you go upside down you are really vulnerable if you do it in the wrong situation, so it helps to be very comfortable with using it and getting to know when exactly its safe to do it... and sometimes it just ends up a last-ditch type thing when you cant do anything else.
always good for novelty value... and like anything else it will help your puck control even if you only use it as a drill... it requires you to use the top face of your stick to play the puck which is a little odd for some people.
and its pretty hilarious when you are trying to do it for the first time... being upside down and spinning is very disorientating and you keep forgetting which way the surface is and swimming out in directions you didn't expect!
i'll try to find a video clip to send you.
