I'm dead keen on showing off, maybe I'll bring a stick or two along as well... Not convinced about the merits of plastic yet though. Some are better than others of course, I find the dorsals have a superb grip on the puck whilst britbats should just be thrown in a pit and burnt.
Either way though, wood (especially soft ones such as the pine gavin uses) gives a better feel of the puck through impact. It's not just about when you leap in and play around with the puck before a game. Wood tends to have a spongier nature and gives over a smaller surface area allowing you to retain control when someone smashes you. Plastics tend to either bend in one place if they're soft, or bounce the puck off the front edge if they're hard. Both results cost you big in puck control.
