| Actually Liam, never. I think it is the most unsportsmanlike non-physical thing a team can do. I was against it when Aus went 19-0 at World's in '92, I think against Colombia, and they seemed upset they didn't get to 20. And more recently when my team was up 8-0 with a few minutes left in the game and we were offered a round of drinks for a 10-0 score. I'd love a free round of drinks but chose not to go for it. Makes more sense to just bury it in their defensive corner and let them work on getting the puck out of there. Generally, you know you will win with a shut-out if the score is 5-0 before halftime. So the additional 26 is just a slap in the face. And on the National level, it would be easy to work on something other than sprints that could also teach your fellow countrymen something about how to do things. Let them watch you go end around after end around or dump it in the corner or something that allows them to practice.
And don't even try to bring up that going easy on them is a slap in the face. I've played on a team of rookies where I was on the other side and it took me a couple of goals scored to figure it out but I figured out who their designated scorer was. And focused my efforts to stop him. And because I could focus on one thing I was able to clear the puck to my rookies and they learned where I needed them for the outlets. I think we lost that game 6-0 or something but it could have been 15-0. I had 7 players that learned something in a game situation and will keep that with them. I thought what the other team did was excellent sportsmanship. Just being on your heels the whole time teaches nothing. Nobody gets anything out of it except some obnoxious bragging rights for those that think annihilating a weak opponent is a good thing.
