| all the big team sports such as football, rugby etc now use this kind of software to analyse possession, passes, etc. it takes time to analyse a game but once done you can call up every time a given player has the puck and what they do, for instance, or look at all the goals scored on the left side of the pool or whatever.
yes, its very expensive... and no i havent heard of anyone managing to use it for hockey, though many people (most obviously the french) make their own manual notes of game events and tactics for analysis later.
