| tips on passing heres a few tips on passing, supergood for beginners though it will take a bit of practice to get the benefit into your pass.
please see attached pic....
a good way to break down a static, stationary pass is to think of it like a punch. a punch in boxing or karate uses force from the legs which travels through pivots in the hips and shoulders before it reaches the arms... a pass can work exactly the same way.
firstly, have a look at the pic and notice how at the start of the pass the playing arm is back and the knee on that side is up, and how the playing arm is forward and the knee back at the end of the pass. all 4 limbs do a bit of a lizard action through the pass, keeping the body in balance.
secondly, notice how at the start of the pass the angle of the hips and shoulders is the same.... as you run through the slides you can see first the legs kick, then the hips rotate, then the shoulders rotate and finally the arms move into their lizard type action. at the end of the pass the angle of the shoulders and hips is again the same but this time angled the other way, after the body has rotated through the pass. and easy way to ensure this is to make sure you begin the pass with your playing shoulder high and end it with your shoulder low... if you begin with your shoulder low your body will still attempt to rotate and you will finish the pass lying entirely on your side as you often see kids do, or even with your legs curled up underneath you.
timing these aspects correctly will allow a player to put maximum amount of force into the puck.... it takes a lot of practice and its hard for beginners to get used to starting with their knee "up" behind the puck like a lizard as it feels weird initially but stick at it and your body will get the hang of it pretty quickly... think of it as taking a first step on a ladder and then stepping up onto the ladder as you pass, and getting the force of your kick through your body and into the puck.
EDIT
PS, in the slides there is a big followthrough but this is not necessary to get a decent pass off
