Thought I might add in a bit more to the discussion beyond the poll questions. For starters up until and for parts of Worlds in Sheffiled I was using the Orca gloves switching back and forth white/black depending on stick color, and doing that for the past sevral years. I have never cut out the palm, just seemed to shorten the usable life of the glove and not really add the "feel" for the stick it was rumored to. I might try it now with one of the extras I have just to give it a try again.
I have tried the grip tape/electrical tape gloves so popular in Eastern Canada, and actually found them to be quite heavy and feel even bulkier than a latex golve. I"ve tried to make my own, and well I don't have the patience or time to create anything to match the workmanship or quality of the Orca glove. I thought these gloves were as light and fast as I needed until about april of last year I was introduced to Marko's Slovenian gloves. Wow.
I had been using the ultralight competition style for worlds, though those gloves and some of the pool bottoms here in the states don't get along and they developed holes around the first knuckle very quickly. I just got one of the more thickly padded red variety like in Marah's avatar and well it is the bomb! These make the Orca glove feel like a 20oz Boxing glove and the Tru-Blue bannana finger gloves feel, well like bannana's taped to your fingers.
I believe for some a custom made glove is the way to go, but I don't have the time/materials/patience to even come close to the quality of glove as Marko's.
