Fred,
You are correct in it costs a lot of money for Kiwi's in particular but also Aussies to travel basically anywhere in the world. Even if it is in the SH.
I think that the main issue is that people can't afford to spend this amount of money every year...lots of people struggle to get the funds every two years. For this reason alone I don't think that having a major competition every year (WAA one year and CMAS the other) is not viable for a lot of players. I know that the Columbians, Argentinean’s etc really struggle to get the money every two years. It is a sensible approach to try and get everyone to contribute to the overall costs but I am not sure how realistic this would be. You wouldn’t want to loose players from other teams i.e. France, Holland, Belgium, Spain etc because the cost has gone up to support the other less fortunate countries. Also is it fair if you work your butt off to secure funds for the Belgium UWH team for example and then have to share it with countries that have not attempted to get sponsorship or raise money themselves...it's a tuff one. I am not saying there is no answer...I am just not sure what it is yet!
