The refereeing was awful to put it mildly. It would probably be better if we played without referees.
A few examples:

-referees throwing out Turks in the Belgium game and forgetting to put them back in until there were only two in the water as Liam has already described. A farce.

-Belgium:Spain in the seeding game. A penalty shot was awarded to the Spanish because a Belgian defender was supposedly defending a goal with his glove. He wasn't. I saw it. I think we all did except the referee. Spanish scored and the end score was 3:2 or 4:3 for Spain. With this decision Belgians lost a chance to beat the Spanish and get into the finals.

-I think it was the Belgium:Italy game when six referees had a conference at the edge of the pool for about ten minutes while the players were freezing in the water... Very nice.

-Slovenia:Turkey Turkish strikers were constantly flicking into our strikers face. Once they actually hit him in the shoulder (sorry Liam, but you can clearly see it in the video). The referees never called dangerous play. Referees also awarded unreasonable amount of free pucks to Turkey.

-Slovenia:Spain RR I was the player who bobbed my head underwater while in subs bench. To make this incident clearer: this was our fifth game if I recall correctly and we were all constantly doing it and never up to that game has anyone been warned or told that it is illegal.
At that particular moment the game was on the opposite wall more than 15 meters away. There was no way we could have been subbing incorrectly or even the referees been confused about it. I was sent to the sin bin once again later in that game when my head wasn't under water at all. You can imagine that I was very careful about it...
Our players were also thrown out for all imaginable fouls whereas the Spanish got merely warnings. I think we played almost 15 minutes of that game with 5 players and 2 minutes with 4. Well it's obvious that we must be the dirtiest team in the history of uwh. On top of that the referees didn't recognize one of our goals and the Spanish got awarded a penalty shot from which they scored. The end result was 2:2. Not that it really matters now but we should have won that game.

-Slovenia:Spain for 3rd place. That was the best of them all... Spanish took a lead, we equaled, then we scored again at the end of the first half, but hey it's not enough for the referees that all the players go to the surface and the puck is in the middle of the bin. They just didn't recognize it. Again. Then the Spanish scored for 2:1 sometime in the middle of the second half. They also stopped our attacks a few times just to give us free puck - probably never heard about the advantage rule thank you very much. And as a bonus they awarded a penalty shot to the Spanish three minutes before the end of the game. If they scored then it would have been all over for us. Luckily our goalie defended. We scored right after that and it went into overtime. We scored once again two minutes before the end of overtime after almost an hour of playing against the Spanish + referees for a very very sweet victory.

And they had the guts to send Benny to the sin bin for laughing at them...
