| I think like all rules in hockey, what the rule book says is less important than a sensible (and hopefully consistant) interpretation by the refs. The rule is clearly there to stop you carrying the puck around midwater, not to stop a bit of helpful puck redirection when you are catching/guiding down a flick. I've never struck a situation in a game where someone was really trying to carry the puck in an unfair or dangerous way (ie up to the surface or over other players etc) but presumably they would fall foul of the law. |
