Everytime I think I understand where this whole thing is going something else pops up. Seems to me per CMAS's rules a "world cup" would not solve the problems, Payments to CMAS etc and all... but this is the first i've heard of any kind of compromise having been talked about.
I suppose we will know quite a bit more in a week or so when the CMAS AGM is completed. If nothing else it should be interesting to hear what comes from that.

The first being obvious as to the impact upon the sport, but the second one way or another will set a precedent on how athletes will be affected by competeing under different organizations, like the Columbians in Atapene's question.
